Which is the world's most popular game of skill?
I would think it owuld be Chess. For solo players - I think crossword puzzles would lead the way - and now the latest craze - Sudoku !!

My favourite is Scrabble, and Literati on the Net. I love mahjong, but play it rather badly.
At one time I used to play a lot of Bridge and was quite good at it.
But now it Crossword, an occasional Sudoku, and a lot of Literati or Scrabble on the computer.

Sudoku really has taken off in a big way over the last few years. Did it actually start only a few years ago or does it have a history going further back?

Must be chess. I don't think that any other of the skill games could have a popular history as long as this game. It seems to be one of those games that kids just want to pick up and learn when they are young. Every house seems to have a set of chess pieces and I think the actual figures provoke curiosity from the kids to learn how to play.

I think it must be chess, which offers the chance to think ahead and plan.

I always feel it is best to play against someone (or a computer) who can offer you a challenge, as there is no point playing someone you can beat all of the time. You need a challenge!!

I have never really been interested in Suduko.......although it is very popular.

I'd say chess. Although I don't enjoy it that much. I'd rather play scrabble because it's more fun and it's somewhat creative.

I love Luxor and Pyramid.

I love both of these games. I'm pretty good now.

What is Suduko? I gotta find out.

Don't try to find out about Sudoku it is apparently very addictive!😄 It is becoming seriously popular though and does test the old grey matter sorting out where to put the numbers correctly.

Open any newspaper and you will find Sudoku in them. Try it - it is a really great puzzle.
It can keep you occupied for hours. Try the easy ones first - those are the fastest.

We have books of the sudoku puzzles and see people all over sitting during dinner breaks or on buses completing them. I have resisted so far but for how long!

I have just been reading about games of skill and although initially I thought it would be chess I now think perhaps solitaire may be the most popular game of skill.
Reason being it is featured on most computers and is probably played by a whole lot of folk who are sitting behind desk's apparently working!!:thumbsup

I love solitaire. I find it is a game I really enjoy playing when I want to relax. It is quite an easy game to learn and accessible being part of most computer's free software. It wouldn't surprise me if it was the most popular it is ceratinly my favourite.

I know a lot of games revolve around dice but am finding it hard to think they would be more popular that the above mentioned chess. Probably Chess then I agree with everyone else.
