For those who remember the classic Simpsons episode when Larry King says the San Antonio Spurs are going to win the NBA title, it seems that prediction has been spot on ever since.

In the old-school program titled "One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish", Homer is listening to the legendary CNN broadcaster reading the Bible on cassette. After Homer stays up all night listening and fast-forwarding through to the end, he passes out as King signs off saying "I love the San Antonio Spurs by the way. If you're betting on the NBA this year, I think they'll win it all."

That episode went to air in 1991. Apart from 1996-97 when David Robinson was injured - paving the way for a No.1 draft pick which turned out to be Tim Duncan, those lines in the Simpsons episode have seemed timely pretty much every time its been re-run. In fact, since they went 21-61 in 1988-89, the Spurs have only had two seasons with less than 50 wins - 47 in 1991-92 and 49 the following year.

Earlier this week they became the first team this season to reach the 50-win mark, achieving the feat in their 66th match. Remarkably, it's the 15th season in a row they've notched this milestone, that's the best in NBA history. The next best is the 12 years straight set by the Los Angeles Lakers in the Kobe Bryant-Shaquille O'Neal era of the 2000s.

San Antonio's mark really should be 17. The year before the 15 straight was the lockout-shortened season of 1998-99 when they went 37-13 on the way to lifting the NBA trophy for the first time. They were 56-26 the year before that.

They've hoisted the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy three more times (2003, '05 and '07) since 1999 to sit on the podium for the NBA's best teams alongside the Lakers and Miami in the post-Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls era.

Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili this week surpassed Magic Johnson, James Worthy and Michael Cooper for most career wins together as a trio with 491 from 664 matches. Only the holy Boston Celtics triumvirate of Larry Bird, Robert Parish and Kevin McHale (540 from 729) have had more combined success.

Apart from Duncan, coach Gregg Popovich has been the other common factor in the Spurs' championship era. When told of the 50-game record post-game, Popovich was characteristically unimpressed, bascially saying it meant very little to him because their eyes were on the bigger prize.

That's why the Spurs are again legitimate contenders again and it's also why they are not celebrated as much as LeBron James' Heat teams are, Kobe's Lakers were, or any of the other great dynasties of yesteryear. Popovich has turned downplaying success into an artform. They were within a rebound away from winning last year's title in game six in Miami despite being written off all season because of the Spurs' outward displays of never being satisfied.

There is a misconception in the NBA that San Antonio is in a small market and the Spurs are unable to attract high-profile recruits like the Lakers, New York and Chicago when truth be told, the city is one of the top 10 most populous in the United States. When the Spurs need players, they invariably get them.

They haven't had to recruit a top-notch star for a long time but going after marquee signings is not the Popovich way anyway. When they need a role filled, they find someone who would fit into their system and turn them into a better player. Boris Diaw was let go by Charlotte, Marco Bellinelli was signed as a free agent after bouncing around Golden State, New Orleans, Toronto and Chicago, and let's not forget the transformation in Australian Boomers guard Patty Mills since he became a Spur two years ago. Mills is playing so well nowadays he is being rapidly picked up in fantasy NBA leagues instead of just by Australians being patriotic with their roster selections.

So, we enter the final stretch of another NBA season and the Spurs, despite having the best record in the league, are again, somehow, flying under the radar. Ladbrokes has them an $7.50 chance behind Miami at $3.10, Indiana ($3.65) and Oklahoma City ($5.50).

As Larry King so presciently said: "If you're betting on the NBA this year, I think they'll win it all."

Actually, I do not completely agree with your theory Who will win the match in this tournament is not fixed, and the results can be changed completely during any game-play. But I agree that the San Antonio Spurs is really a good team, but there ater LA Lakers,Chicago Bulls, Miami heat too.

LeBron James made his fifth consecutive NBA Finals on Tuesday night when his Cleveland Cavaliers easily finished off a sweep of the Atlanta Hawks.

He finished the game with a 23-9-7, pretty routine for him these days. He was the most dominant force in the four-game series, picking apart the Hawks, getting to the rim again and again, and routinely finding open shooters. The entire offense ran through him, and he was a monster on the defensive end as well.

His fifth consecutive Finals appearance? He’s only the tenth player in NBA history to accomplish that, and the only non-member of the ’60s Celtics teams, a group that ran through a league with only eight or nine teams total. (James Jones also accomplished the feat last night, which is a delightful fact.)

I do certainly agree that the article is damn interesting and is quite informational. Now, I know how it all started. Well, my favorite player of all time is of course the legend Michael Jordan.

Basketball legend Michael Jordan on Friday celebrated 30 years of his "Air Jordan I", the first sports shoes created for him by Nike and which eventually became a global fashion statement.

"We did some good things 30 years ago," said Jordan to his entourage in Paris, although none of the 50-strong press corps who attended the event at the city's Palais de Tokyo was allowed to pose questions to the star.

Jordan has been retired from the sport since 2003 after winning six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls. He was named the NBA's Most Valuable Player five times, and is widely regarded as the best to ever play the sport.

Now 52, he still earns $100 million a year in endorsements from Nike and a slew of other sponsors including sports drink brand Gatorade and videogame studio 2K Sports, according to Forbes, a figure the magazine said was more than any current or retired athlete.

Jordan is current the majority owner of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets franchise.

The NBA draft is in the books.

We all know how the Utah Jazz fared. General manager Dennis Lindsey grabbed Trey Lyles with the No. 12 pick, and then selected Olivier Hanlan in the second round. But how did the rest of the league do?

There are certainly signature moments. Who can forget the cute kid who took a selfie while crying over the New York Knicks taking Kristaps Porzingis at No. 4? And who can forget the Philadelphia 76ers taking 468 centers through the first two rounds? OK, that's a slight exaggeration.

On Thursday night, the NBA draft brought us 60 new players. It brought hope to the Los Angeles Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves. It brought intrigue from the Boston Celtics and their inability to trade into the top 10.

The NBA free-agent frenzy is here, and rarely has the term felt more appropriate.

Before the market even opened, teams had their top recruiters lined up like Black Friday bargain hunters. But nothing about this Christmas in July comes cheap.

Contracts can't be formally signed until July 9, but a slew of Powerball-sized agreements are already in place. We're hear to break down this summer's most expensive handshakes.

There's only one requirement for players to appear here. Their agreed-upon deals have to include an average annual salary of at least $15 million. With teams looking to lock in contract rates before the salary cap bursts with the new TV money next summer, that salary threshold has been fairly easy to clear in this generous market.

How well has that money been spent? It depends on the player. With our red pen in hand, let's start the grading.

The NBA Board of Governors unanimously approved changes to playoff seeding and qualification procedures effective with the 2015-16 season, the league announced Tuesday.

As part of the modifications, the eight playoff teams in each conference will be seeded in order of their regular-season record. Most recently, every division winner was guaranteed a top four seed in its respective conference regardless of its record but did not receive home-court advantage if its playoff opponent had a better record.

The Board also approved changes to tiebreak criteria for playoff seeding and home-court advantage. Head-to-head results have become the first criterion to break ties for playoff seeding and home-court advantage between two teams with identical regular-season records; the second criterion is whether a team won its division. Under the old tiebreak system, a division winner was awarded the higher seed and received home-court advantage in a series if the two teams met in the playoffs.

The NBA's Competition Committee unanimously recommended each of these changes prior to the Board of Governors vote.

There was real life drama during a recent 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' shoot -- with a troubled ex-NBA player allegedly knocking one of the women to the ground ... multiple sources tell TMZ Sports.

It all went down at a home in Miami back in September, where ex-Washington Wizards player Glen Rice Jr. was involved in a scene with Tammy McCall Browning.

FYI -- Glen is the same guy who was recently arrested in ATL after being shot in a dispute at a restaurant owned by T.I.

Our sources tell us ... producers brought Browning in to test her for a full-time gig on the show ... and she brought Rice Jr. because she thought it would help her chances. But things took a turn for the worse when they began drinking -- with the ladies complaining to producers that Glen was getting aggressive and making the women uncomfortable.

We're told Tammy went to ask Glen to leave -- and as one source says, "He lost it." Our sources say Glen went to confront one of the housewives -- and Tammy tried to get in the way to stop him -- but he wouldn't stop and knocked her to the ground. Tammy smacked her head pretty hard and began to cry.

We're told the whole thing was captured on video ... in fact, footage of Tammy reeling in pain was used in the promo for the new season.

Tammy was eventually taken to the hospital for evaluation -- where doctors determined she was fine, no concussion. But later, Tammy and Glen returned to the home -- where the housewives made it clear Glen wasn't welcome. An argument ensued and cops were called to the scene.

Things eventually calmed down -- no one was arrested -- and Glen left without further incident. But our sources say Glen was told he was NOT welcome back and Tammy did not get a featured role on the show.

We reached out to Rice for comment -- so far, no word back.

Kings general manager Vlade Divac stood back and took in the scene.

Dozens of media members hovered around players in the lead up to Thursday’s game in Mexico City. Professional wrestlers exchanged their masks for NBA jerseys with Kings players. Kings center DeMarcus Cousins even showed off his possible in-ring skills by scooping up a wrestler.

It’s the kind of international exposure the NBA lacked when Divac was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1989 from the country then called Yugoslavia.

“It was the 80s, and there were very few games you could watch live,” Divac said. “When (international players) started coming to the NBA, all the TV rights became exposed to the world and now the NBA is definitely a global game. And it’s great to have an opportunity to come here.”

The Kings will play the Boston Celtics as part of NBA Global Games at Mexico City Arena, but it’s more than just a regular-season game for the NBA. It’s an opportunity to continue to bring the NBA to an international audience.

The Kings took part in an NBA Cares outreach program Wednesday morning and more activities were planned for Wednesday night.

NBA Odds: Pelicans Host Thunder on TNT

Some of the NBA's biggest superstars will be in action this Thursday (8 PM ET, TNT) when the New Orleans Pelicans host the Oklahoma City Thunder. Unfortunately for the Pelicans (22-34 SU, 23-33 ATS), they don't have many good role players supporting their big kahuna, forward Anthony Davis. Three of his most important teammates are on the injured list: center Omer Asik, and guards Tyreke Evans and Eric Gordon.

Bet on basketball at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

The Thunder (40-16 SU, 22-34 ATS) could use a little more help for their two MVP candidates, point guard Russell Westbrook and swingman Kevin Durant. But they're much healthier than New Orleans, and they did add guard Randy Foye at the trade deadline in a deal with the Denver Nuggets. Perhaps the change of scenery will help Foye (7.8 PER) rediscover his shooting stroke.

New Orleans has one advantage in this matchup: Oklahoma City will be playing on zero days of rest after visiting the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday night, while the Pelicans will be idle. Otherwise, it's the Thunder's game to lose. They hammered New Orleans 121-95 on February 11, cashing in easily as 12-point home favorites, and that was with Asik still in the lineup for the Pelicans.

The Commissioner of the NBA says no decision has been made in regard to the location of the 2017 All-Star Game, which is scheduled to take place at Time Warner Cable Arena in uptown Charlotte.

There had been a number of requests from various groups and even a bipartisan group of US Senators to move the game because of House Bill 2, the new law limiting protections for members of the LGBT community.

Commissioner Adam Silver said Friday afternoon at the league owners meeting in New York, "The was no discussion of moving the All Star game."

He went on to add, "The best role for the league to play here is through constructive engagement towards change, not setting deadlines, not making ultimatums."

The All-Star game will mean hundreds of millions of dollars to the Charlotte area.

It will be the single-largest event since the city hosted the Democratic National Convention in 2012.

The Charlotte Chamber of Commerce issued a statement saying, "We appreciate and are grateful for the NBA's decision to keep the All Star game in Charlotte. We recognize that they, and others, have an expectation that more work needs to be done."

"We appreciate the support of the NBA for its belief in the people of Charlotte and North Carolina," said Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts.

The NBA released a statement following Silver's announcement, clarifying that a decision the game's location has not been finalized.

The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority released new figure showing seven upcoming events in the city have been canceled because of concerns over HB2.

Last weekend, Bruce Springsteen canceled a show in Greensboro, and PayPal said it would no longer bring 400 new jobs to Charlotte.

Hope the NBA will not move the All-Star Game. It is one of the biggest event on the NBA aside from the Finals. And a lot of people will anticipating the event in the city.

If North Carolina’s controversial bathroom law limiting anti-discrimination protection for gays, lesbians and transgender people remains in place, the All-Star Game may be moved.
