The betting scenario for this year's French Open might be the strangest we've seen for any tennis grand slam. It's weird enough that the favorite for the men's title, Rafael Nadal, is only seeded third. But it's even more bizarre when you think that the women's favorite, Serena Williams, hasn't been past the quarter's in Paris since winning there in 2002.

Rafa and Serena will have plenty of competition if they are to fulfill their favoritism status.

In the men's draw, world number one Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Andy Murray will provide fierce competition, while there are plenty of claycourt specialists who could also challenge.

On the women's side, any of the top 10 ranked players in the world led by Victoria Azarenka and reigning champ Maria Sharapova could challenge for the title, and the openness of the draw is underlined by the fact that Serena lost in the first round of last year's tournament to 111th-ranked Virginie Razzano.

In Bet365 Sports pre-tournament betting on the men's title, Nadal leads the way at 8/13, followed by Djokovic, 6/4, Federer, 12/1, Juan Martin Del Potro, 22/1, and David Ferrer, 25/1. In the women's, Serena leads at 11/10 from Sharapova, 7/2, Azarena, 11/2, and Na Li, 10/1.

This online sportsbook will be with you during the whole tournament, offering pre-match betting on most games, including more detailed wagering options on sets won, points won and anything else you could possibly think of.

If you're planning on watching the French Open, then bet365 provides a double solution in the form of live streaming on some of the games combined with live betting: Bet365 Sports will provide an extensive range of In-Play betting opportunities throughout the tournament with markets including Point Betting, Next Game Winner, Current Set Winner and Match Winner.

Almost everyone who has tried online sports betting has made a few mistakes.

Perhaps it was betting on an underdog team that had little chance of winning, because the quarterback’s story was so compelling that he simply couldn’t lose. Or maybe it’s betting too much on a big game, because, well, it’s the big game.

However, when a novice — or even an experienced — bettor makes the same mistakes repeatedly, the chances of making any real money decreases. Understanding the most common mistakes and how to avoid them will give you an edge from the very first wager.

Betting Without Thinking

It’s Monday night. You’ve got a six pack of beer, a couple of pizzas and some friends over to watch the game. Before kickoff, you log on to your online sportsbook and make a wager on the game, even though you don’t have an interest in the teams, never mind information about the odds. Or maybe you’ve had a few drinks, and suddenly feel lucky and place a few longshot bets.

Making bets on games when you’re drunk, angry or bored is not a good strategy. You might get lucky once in a while and win a wager, but making bets when you aren’t 100 percent in control is a recipe for disaster. The same goes for making bets because you’re touched by the team’s story, or because it’s your home team or alma mater. It doesn’t matter that you spent the four best years of your life at that school. If the odds are against them, you’ll probably lose money on the bet.

Betting to Recoup Losses

Even the most successful bettors have lost wagers. That’s why it’s called “gambling” — there’s never a sure thing. Understanding losses are a part of the game is an important facet of betting with online sportsbooks. If you try to replace money you’ve lost by betting too much on another game or making a number of large wagers, you’re asking for trouble. You might get lucky, but it’s likely you’ll continue to lose money with desperate bets you haven’t fully thought out. Remain consistent with your bet amounts and pay attention to the bets you’re making. Eventually, your losses will even out.

Betting Too Much

Experienced sportsbook bettors will tell you bankroll management is the most important factor in a successful betting strategy. That means determining the amount of money you can reasonably afford to use for gambling — and that won’t devastate you financially if you lose — and managing it effectively. Generally, you should never have more than 10 percent of your bankroll in play at any time and never more than two percent of the total bankroll wagered on any one event. Stay consistent with your bets; the most successful bettors are those who wager about the same amount on each game, even those touted as a “sure thing.” Nothing is ever guaranteed. Injuries, bad officiating or a single player having an off-day can turn a sure thing into a certain loss in seconds.

Choosing the Wrong Sportsbook

The numbers can be tempting. In an effort to draw members, sportsbooks offer bonuses and promotions to build your bankroll and keep you coming back. Before you join on the basis of a bonus only, do your homework. What fees does the book charge? How easy is it to use the site? What are other people saying about the book? An incredible bonus isn’t any good if you can’t collect your winnings or if you have pay a large percentage of your winnings to fees, so research several US online sportsbooks to find the one that works for you.

Relying on the Wrong Stats

Just like you shouldn’t bet on a team because it’s your favorite, you shouldn’t bet on a team because they have won more games than their opponent or because the numbers indicate a better defense. The most successful bettors become experts in their sport and learn how to interpret statistics and rankings to determine which team is better overall. It’s also important to learn how to interpret odds, point spreads and percentages. Knowledge is power, and the more information you have, the better your odds of making a good bet.

Everyone makes a bad bet or two in their gambling career. Repeating the same mistakes, though, is a poor strategy. Before you wager a single dollar, do your research and learn the ins and outs of sports betting to protect your investment and increase your winnings.

Remember the old saying "One man's loss is another man's gain?" Well online gamers, listen to this one:

Ladbrokes, Britain's second largest bookmaker, has issued a shock profit warning. The company, which operates more than 2,000 betting shops in Britain, warned that it expected annual operating profits to fall this year after a poor first-quarter performance in horse racing and online gaming.

And why is this so? Too many winners! Is this not a major online casino gaming fantasy? Except this time it is real, very real.

There's Always A Chance To Win

Yes, we know that odds are usually in favor of the house. Usually. But every now and then any online gamer can latch on to a winning streak. And that's just what happened at Ladbrokes after an unusually high percentage of winners earlier this year. So many winners in fact that the company had to issue an explanation to its shareholders.

Chief executive Richard Glynn said conditions on the British high street were very difficult. "The trading environment and economic conditions since the start of the year have remained challenging," he said in a statement.

The company has also blamed Racing Results for its poor figures, as it paid out on a number of favorites that won during this year's Cheltenham Festival.

An old truism in the gaming world is that Bookmakers tend to suffer when a string of favorites win, as more punters will have bet on them and therefore need to be paid their winnings.

Come Join The Crowd Of Winners!

Conversely, when favorites fall short - as Tiger Woods did in this year's Masters Tournament at August - the bookies tend to make a large profit.

So over the long run, the mathematics of bookmaking is designed to ensure that the profits from failing favorites more than cancel out the losses when they win.

What does all this mean: Translated, Ladbrokes Has Had Too Many Winners! So what better time than now to go check them out.

Canadian gaming groups are pushing local legislators to approve a bill legalizing Vegas-style online sportsbooks, in a move that has them at odds with the NHL and the other big North American sports leagues.

Canadian Online Betting Push

Paul Burns, VP of Public Affairs for the Canadian Gaming Association, recently said that parlay cards for sports betting are no longer sufficient. He said legalized betting would deter Canadian punters from betting at illegal offshore sports, which is currently an estimated $14 billion industry.

A bill was introduced in the Canadian parliament almost two years ago to allow residents to wager on a single sporting event. At present, single-game betting is illegal under the Canadian criminal code while the country offers a sports lottery in which punters can "parlay" on three or more games.

Betting Overseas

The good thing for Canadians is that they can place bets online through leading European sportsbooks such as William Hill and bet365 Sports. With the use of credit cards and e-wallets, they can make deposits and withdraw winnings without having to worry about legal repercussions.

The NHL and NBA seasons both finished this week with the Chicago Blackhawks and Miami Heat taking out the respective titles. But with so much money being spent on wagers on these sports as well as the NFL and MLB, it seems only a matter of time before the Canadian (and American) government approve the necessary reforms.

Just thought i would mention Im over at askthebookie.com forum. Its a sports and gambling forum, fantasy football, general discussion, etc. No chat room, but we do have 3 or 4 weekly pokerstars tourneys under home games. We average about 20 people and usually the winner gets a 25 dollar gift card and forum points which can be used to get freeplays for some sportsbooks and
in the auction section to bid on prizes the site gives away. Its kind of new, but i like it because there is no trolling allowed and a good group of people.

If you have nothing to do, like to play fantasy football and play some poker, talk tennis or baseball, come on over to askthebookie.com and tell them ttwarrior1 sent you.

Then go to the poker section or contest section so you can sign up for the home games and the forum contests. They are usually 9 pm est 3 to 4 days a week.

Hopefully during football season and if poker ever heat up , ill try to get everyone there to join up at ixgames.

Please don't think this is spamming. Im here to help . We need more people for poker and fantasy contests and hopefully online poker will make a comeback and we can get this forum rocking and help eachother out.

The Tour de France favourite, Chris Froome, overcame his rivals on the first mountain climb of the race on Saturday to win the eighth stage and take the leader’s yellow jersey. Froome is by far the bookies favourite with odds of 1/6 available, the best odds on his closet rival Richie Porte are 22/1.

Froome finished second last year, behind fellow Brit Bradley Wiggins, and he looks on course to win this time around. After the stage Froome said, “I have to thank the team today. They did a great job and got me to the final climb, they are the ones who got me there. It’s the first (big) day for the overall classification. There’s a long way to go until Paris. There are two weeks left but we want to keep the yellow jersey.”

Froome attacked early into the stage’s second big climb up to Ax 3 Domaines and no one came close to him. His teammate Richie Porte finished 51 seconds behind in second place. Porte said, “We rode from the front and the team was absolutely perfect today, there was no need to stress. I’m absolutely finished but it was an incredible day.”

Tom Waterhouse has sold his online betting business, tomwaterhouse-com, to British giant William Hill for at least $34m.

The bookmaker will remain managing director of the business, and could earn up to $70m more under an earn-out agreement.

“I am excited by tomwaterhouse-com becoming part of the William Hill family. We’ve been looking for the right strategic partner for some time – William Hill is that partner and so much more,” Waterhouse said.

“I particularly like that they bring the knowledge and support but that they trust the local management to carry out the plan.”

The purchase of tomwaterhouse-com is the second online-betting company purchase for William Hill. They also acquired Sportingbet in March this year for $670m. The CEO of William Hill, Ralph Topping, said the company had plans to become Australia’s biggest online bookie.

“International expansion is a key part of William Hill’s growth strategy and making Australia our second home is our priority. The Sportingbet acquisition gave us a strong and proven platform with an experienced management team," he said.

"Acquiring tomwaterhouse-com gives us a rapidly growing business that appeals to a wider customer base."

Waterhouse’s prolific advertising and a sponsorship deal with the NRL, under which live odds were given during game broadcasts, prompted government intervention and a backing away from the deal by the NRL.

Waterhouse was accused by other betting industry heavyweights, including the CEO of Sportingbet, of “acting irresponsibly”.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (Acma) this month confirmed new guidelines, banning live odds during game play and restricting gambling advertising to scheduled breaks.

William Hill said in a statement that there would be “limited crossover” between tomwaterhouse-com, Sportingbet and Centrebet.

Online betting heavyweights Ladbrokes and Bwin were reportedly also interested in Waterhouse’s business.

Snooker as everyone knows attracts huge audiences around the world on broadcast television. In January 2013, it was announced that the British Broadcasting Corporation had renewed their contract to broadcast the three major snooker tournaments up until the end of the 2016/2017 season, with the option to add a fourth event in 2014 with Eurosport also providing coverage of the event.
World Snooker is responsible for running and administrating snooker's professional circuit, including prestigious ranking tournaments such as the World Championship and the UK Championship, as well as invitation events such as the Masters. The number of events on the World Snooker tour has increased from under 10 in 2009/10 to over 30 in 2013/14.
The 2011 World Championship final attracted a peak audience of 6.6 million on BBC and in China, a staggering 241 million people watched at least 5 minutes of the tournament.

It was recently announced that the World Snooker governing body has granted online gambling company 888casino-com the new title sponsorship of its World Seniors Championship. This year’s event will take place in Portsmouth, England, on October 19-20, and will be broadcast by UK pay-television broadcaster BSkyB.
Famous names competing for the title will include Steve Davis, Jimmy White, Dennis Taylor, Cliff Thorburn, Joe Johnson, defending champion Nigel Bond and, for the first time, seven-time World Champion Stephen Hendry.
World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn, commented, “888casino-com is showing fantastic support for snooker this season through title sponsorship of a range of events,”

Itai Pazner,888-com’s Senior Vice-president also commented on the arrangement, “The feedback from our customers shows that snooker is one of their favourite sports and this is why our sponsorship with our casino brand, 888casino, is the perfect match. We hope our customers will enjoy the extra promotions and content we will provide by teaming up with the World Seniors Championship and other Snooker events.”

The world is the marketplace on the internet and Paddy Power the iconic Irish gambling operator is taking that idea seriously. A recent report by the Sunday Independent news source revealed that Paddy Power and Facebook have partnered in a venture to offer online sports gambling to 2,000 players in Britain.

Patrick Kennedy the Chief Executive Officer of Paddy Power this about the soft beta launch being conducted, "We hope to launch more broadly in the next six to eight weeks depending on the learnings from that,"

Paddy Power has invested a great amount of time and money on the project realizing the potential market in Social media is enormous. A full year was spent developing the idea with a cooperative effort by technicians in Bulgaria and Ireland. The social network programming requires special interfaces to allow for real-money sports and in-play or mid game betting. Paddy Power has struck a home run being the first online betting operator to accomplish this.
Kennedy also commented on the potential, "In the US alone, consumers spend what amounts to 100,000 years in one month on Facebook, and betting is an inherently social activity,"
"There's no doubt that the online consumer is consuming social media disproportionately,” he said, "People won't be able to see each other's stakes or their winnings, but they will be able to see if they choose to: bet selections you're making, the hot index of who's doing well, they'll be able to challenge bets, laugh at bets.” Adding, "It gives people complete flexibility on what they do or don't open up to,"

Social media has changed everything on the internet. Markets are not just about a geographic local any longer with online platforms like Facebook and Twitter are now considered potential market territories. Paddy Power has 10 million Facebook fans and 250,000 followers on Twitter. It also has a partnership with Twitter with prospects for future offerings there.

Snooker has again received a slap in the face with the recent news that a champion has been found guilty of cheating on seven counts. The record that Seven Lee has is spectacular in the sport of snooker but he has had runs with the law before. The 38-year-old player could face a life time suspension from snooker competition this time round.
Suspicious betting alerted the authorities who eventually laid charges involving match-fixing that included one match at the 2009 World Championship then three matches at the 2008 Malta Cup, two at the UK Championship the same year; and one at the 2009 China Open.
The taking down of a cheat is a major coup for the integrity unit for the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association said Nigel Mawer who was former Met Police senior detective Chief Superintendent.
Bets were placed by a then sponsor, his former manager and another associate who gained in excess of £97,000 from £11,000 in wagers on the games Lee fixed. It was not proven if Lee benefited from his involvement, financially. Therefore A two-and-a-half-year probe by police and the Gambling Commission saw the CPS not pressing criminal charges. Adam Lewis QC said the verdict of match-fixing was made on the ‘balance of probabilities’, with Lee seen not as a ‘cynical cheat’ but as a ‘weak man who succumbed to temptation’

Jason Ferguson, the WPBSA chairman commented, ‘We have a zero-tolerance approach to match-fixing. We have an extensive network of contacts across the world and we believe we have established the world’s most sophisticated system in dealing with corruption in sport.
‘This ruling is a stark warning to competitors in any sport who could become vulnerable. ‘Stephen Lee was the No 5 player in the world but his future participation is now in real doubt as he will face a significant sanction.’ Lee will find out where he is headed September 24.
