Former William Hill Australia chief executive Michael Sullivan is looking to take on his former employers and other rivals with the launch of BlueBet, a new sports and horse race betting brand.

Sullivan believes that the influx of UK bookmakers to the Australian market, which has seen the likes of bet365, Ladbrokes and most notably William Hill dominate the market, will be unable to offer the level of personalised service that customers require.

As a result he has launched a track-side betting product alongside a new online betting site, BlueBet-com.au, as part of his drive to build the business.

The launch of BlueBet marks Sullivan’s return to the gambling market after leaving his role as CEO of William Hill Australia in July last year. He departed following a review of the division’s management, which saw Tom Waterhouse take charge of the business.

He had worked for Sportingbet since 2002, when the bookmaker first established itself in Australia’s Northern Territory, then took charge of Centrebet after it was acquired in 2011.

Following the acquisition of Sportingbet and Centrebet by William Hill in 2012, he transferred to the London-listed bookmaker.

“Back when we started Sportingbet in Australia in 2002, we really gave punters an experience they hadn’t been exposed to before and we will be servicing all punters in the new business whether they bet in $1 or $100,000,” he said of his new venture.

Sullivan also called for new limits on gambling advertising during the broadcast of live sport, criticising the prevalence of UK sports betting brands.

“Watching sport is Australia’s favourite hobby and I really don’t think it needs to be littered with ads from all these pommy bookmakers," he said.

“I said the same thing when I was CEO of Sportingbet and I really think some self regulation so Australians can watch sport without been bombarded with betting offers is a good idea,” Sullivan explained.

With the participants in Super Bowl 50 set for Feb. 7 (Broncos vs. Panthers) and millions of Americans poised to bet money on their fantasy rosters, a new survey finds most have no moral issue with sports gambling.

Even so, a significant number also draw the line at legalizing sports betting nationwide. And the country is split on the question of whether daily sports games sponsored online should be illegal.

Companies such as FanDuel and DraftKings offer prizes as people risk money on the performance of the hypothetical teams on their fantasy rosters. Both games are under fire from some states’ attorneys general. They allege the games are a form of online gambling outside state laws.

Nashville, Tenn.-based LifeWay Research, an evangelical polling group, found 64 percent of US adults said sports gambling is not morally wrong, 31 percent disagreed, and 5 percent were unsure.

But only 40 percent agreed “sports betting should be legalized throughout the country,” with 49 percent disagreeing with that statement.

Italy’s online gambling market showed good gains in its casino and sports betting verticals, while poker continued its inexorable decline.

Citing stats from Italian gambling regulatory AAMS, Agimeg.it reported that Italian-licensed online casino sites generated revenue of €327.5m in 2015, a 31.2% improvement over 2014’s figures.

Lottomatica (GTech) was the online casino market leader, holding a 14.7% share. Sisal was a distant second at 9.7%, while William Hill ranked third with 8.3%. Hills began 2015 with a casino share of 9.4% in January but fell to 7.1% in December, the biggest drop of 2015 among online-only casino operators.

The rest of the top 10 online casino sites shook out thusly: Snai (6.3%), Gala Coral’s Eurobet brand (6.2%), Bwin (5.4%), 888 Holdings (4.5%), Novomatic’s Greentube-Starvegas (3.3%), Winga (2.8%) and Paddy Power (2.8%).

Italy’s sports betting handle rose 28% to €5.5m, largely due to a surge in online wagers. Online handle was up nearly 80% to €2.8b while revenue was up 19% to €254m. Bet365 dominated the handle chart with €1.05b, more than SNAI-Cogetech’s combined online and land-based handle of €813.5m and Lottomatica brands Better/ Totosì’s €711.5m.

As for online-only sports betting charts, Bet365’s handle was nearly quadruple its closest rival, Eurobet, at €276.5m, while William Hill managed €233.5m. The rest of the online top-10 looked like this: Better/ Totosì (€212.6m), Sisal (€192.8m), SNAI-Cogetech (€189m), Paddy Power (€160m), Bwin (€157.7m), Betclic (€47.5m) and Goldbet (€39.2m).

Bet365’s market dominance is all the more impressive given that it only launched its Italian site in September 2014. The company’s timing was perfect, as its arrival coincided with regulatory changes that dramatically expanded the types of wagers licensed operators could offer Italian punters.

Sadly, there’s no such cure for online poker’s ills. Tournament revenue fell 4.2% to €71.3m while cash games slumped 22.3% to €83.7m. Online bingo also had a bad year, falling 7.1% to €25.3m

Germany’s 16 state ministers have agreed to double the number of available sports betting licenses but rejected a wholesale rewrite of the country’s controversial interstate gambling treaty.

Thursday saw the leaders of the 16 German states assemble in Berlin to discuss ways of fixing the country’s stalled gambling regulations, which the European Union’s top court has declared illegal under EU law. The European Commission is believed to be preparing infringement proceedings against Germany over its failed gambling regime.

In October, officials in the state of Hesse proposed a number of suggestions for bringing the federal treaty into compliance, including lifting the arbitrary cap on the number of available licenses. In September 2014, Germany awarded 20 sports betting licenses but none of these licenses have been activated due to legal challenges by failed applicants.

On Friday, representatives of German lottery and pool betting operator association Deutsche Lotto and Totoblock (DLT😎 told local media that the state ministers had agreed to double the number of available licenses to 40, meaning all 35 applicants who made it to the second stage of the controversial licensing process would automatically be approved to offer sports betting in Germany.

However, the ministers reportedly rejected proposals to extend the licensing regime to include other online betting options such as casino and poker games. The ministers were said to have favored “minimally invasive surgery” to heal the ailing interstate treaty, dashing the hopes of online operators hoping to offer a wide-ranging product to their German customers.

The amended treaty will likely be officially signed into law in June. Whether or not this change will be sufficient to ward off the EC’s infringement proceedings remains to be seen.

Attention fantasy sports players, the Minnesota House was debating Monday a bill to legalize online fantasy sports betting.

Currently, Minnesota – like many other states — simply doesn’t have laws regulating the new online fantasy sports phenomenon. But lawmakers are taking a much closer look at the games.

The wildly popular fantasy sports online sites require fans to pay a fee for selecting teams made up of different players, and competing in daily and weekly games against other fans.

In Minnesota, it’s big business.

“We have almost a million Minnesotans that are playing fantasy sports right now,” said Rep. Tim Sanders (R-Blaine). “They are not breaking any law. They are not doing anything that the law says they can’t do.”

The Minnesota bill would limit online players to 18-years of age and older.

It also would ban employees of fantasy sports companies from playing, after a scandal made it appear some of the games were rigged.

Although some states are taking legal action against fantasy sports companies, calling it illegal gambling, Minnesota supporters say that, technically, fantasy sports isn’t “gambling.”

“Fantasy sports are based on education, research, strategic skill and decision making,” Sanders said.

Still, others aren’t quite convinced.

“If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck,” said John Helmberger of the Minnesota Family Council, a conservative policy group.

Critics say that it’s “legal fiction” to say fantasy sports isn’t illegal gambling.

“For every skilled player who wins, there have to be a lot of unskilled players who are taking a chance and losing,” said Jake Grassel of Citizens Against Gambling Expansion.

In other states, such as Texas, New York and Massachusetts, there are significant pushes to stop online fantasy sports.

Meanwhile, states like Colorado and Indiana are legalizing it.

The United States Congress plans a public hearing on the topics of sports betting, online gambling, and daily fantasy sports, according to ESPN’s David Purdum. The hearing, which is set for Wednesday, May 11, is planned for the House of Representatives Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade.

The day’s hearing will be an opportunity to discuss the possible legalization of several forms of banned or unregulated gaming. If spokes people for the various forms of gaming make a good impression, it could set the table for a federal legalization process for one or more of the activities.

At the same time, the hearings could be a chance for a public relations blunder which could harm one or more of these gaming industries.

Most online gambling and sports gambling in the U.S. is illegal, but under the vast majority of state and federal laws, fantasy sports games are exempt because they are technically considered "games of skill," as opposed to "games of chance."

On Thursday, June 23, the United Kingdom will decide whether or not to stay in the European Union. Recent polls for this very important referendum have the “Leave” side well ahead, by as many as 10 points according to The Independent. But at press time, the “Stay” camp is favored at –160 on the props market.

The prevailing wisdom is that voters who are leaning toward a “Brexit” from the EU will get cold feet once it's time to mark their ballots. This tends to happen anytime there's something truly fundamental on the line. However, the “Leave” camp (+120) has been gaining momentum, thanks in part to Rupert Murdoch's The Sun tabloid coming out in support. The Sun is the biggest-selling newspaper in the UK at 1.7 million readers.

Other forces pointing at a Brexit include the rise of the radical right-wing UK Independence Party, which won 12.7% of votes during the 2015 general election, and growing concern over the European refugee crisis. The seriousness of the push toward “Leave” can be seen in the Euro Stoxx 50 index, which has dropped 7% since last Friday, and with portfolio managers recommending their clients switch to lower-risk assets.

Police crippled gambling syndicates offering online illegal football betting in the state during the ongoing UEFA Euro football championship.

Twenty-eight local men aged between 20 and 48 years old were arrested in several areas throughout the state in Ops Soga Euro 2016 – a crackdown on gambling.

“Almost RM6.12mil bets are being placed and the 28 men act as agents or bookies for the illegal betting,” state police chief Comm Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said in a press conference at the Johor Police Contingent headquarters here last week.

He said police conducted 26 raids between June 10 and 23, which led to 28 arrests of suspected bookies and agents of gambling syndicates.

“Over RM70,000, including Singapore dollars were seized, with bookies offering a total credit limit of up to RM1mil in bets,” said Comm Wan Ahmad Najmuddin.

He said police also confiscated six computers, four laptops, three tablets, 25 mobile phones and 105 pieces of betting papers.

Comm Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said most of the gambling was done online where customers would call bookies at a number provided on social media, flyers and call cards.

“The bookies don’t operate at a permanent place as they are always on the go and can operate anywhere,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 6 (3) of the Betting Act 1953.

If convicted the suspects could be fined between RM20,000 and RM200,000, with a jail term of not more than five years.

It seems to me that one of the best options for sports betting is this site https://www.u12x.com/แทงบอล/ . This is not an advertisement, it's just a site where I bet and earn money. But you have to be careful with the stakes. I always analyze teams and players, and that's why I often win. But I see a lot of good sites here, so I will definitely test a few more and choose the best one. What sites do you play on? Maybe there is a better option for bets where there are small percentages and so on. And so I wish you all big wins and good luck, without it in any way in our business, right? 😁
