LaserLock Technologies, Inc. is based in Washington, D.C., and is a publicly traded firm. The Company markets security technology to protect a number of sectors including gaming products from counterfeiting or fraud. The company which is a global leader in providing state-of-the-art authentication solutions has recently announced that it has completed the extensive testing of its online gaming authentication solution and will now take its product to the online market place.
The product is a multi-factor authentication system that utilizes the LaserLock's VerifyMe™ and other technologies to determine the identity of online gambling participants. Multi-factor authentication goes beyond the currently compromised system of passwords and Personal Identification Numbers and provides added layers of protection for those who wish to process gambling transactions.

The Chief Executive Officer, Neil Alpert, of LaserLock Technologies, commented on the testing, "As more states legalize online gaming, we are excited to bring our solution to market to protect both players and casinos from the risks of identity theft," Alpert, continued, "Incorporating multiple layers of authentication is key to making online gaming secure, and our solution accomplishes this and is quick and easy to use."

Michael R. Sonnenreich, Chairman of the Board for the LaserLock Technology firm, commented, "There is significant hesitation on the part of lawmakers and the public to legalize online gaming, fearing it will open up a Pandora's box of problems,". Sonnenreich, continued, "When our commercial-ready solution is utilized, in conjunction with our strong ethical gaming platform, it creates a more secure and acceptable alternative for both the player and the casino."

The solution is based on three stages that determine identity, something you know, something you are and something you have. The risks are reduced from the single method of authentication which could easily result in identity theft or accidental use by children or unauthorized players. LaserLock is in talks with a number of online casino operators to utilize the solution in their offerings.

US tycoon Donald Trump has found another way to make a fortune in online casino games.

He recently signed a partnership for the operation of online casino games in New Jersey. This follows news that the state, which is home to the US's second biggest gambling hotspot Atlantic City, was legalising online gambling.

After being declared bankrupt in 2010, Mr Trump was no longer able to manage casinos but simply control the use of his name in relation to them.

Recently, however, he has been talking with Atlantic City casinos, where he is an investor, about operating an online gaming market.

Some punters in the U.K. were overjoyed with the Royal baby outcome that is those who placed their bets on the new arrival being a boy rather than a girl.
Ladbrokes the iconic established betting agency spokesperson said "Punters who believed it would be a boy have now collected over £100,000 worth of winnings," Punters and books alike for the most part expected the Royal couple to have a baby girl after Kate let it slip that she may have a daughter on the way. Some gambling operators even stopped taking wagers on the baby's gender.

A closely watched event from all angles the U.K. gambling services saw huge waves of betting activity some reportedly taking in as much as £1.2 million or $1.8 million from individuals all over the world who are wagering on everything from the royal baby's name to the child’s career path.
Between 20% and 30% of those bets were placed after the royal palace announced that Kate had gone into labor July 22. Joe Crilly, a spokesperson for William Hill, commented on the betting "The money keeps pouring in for the royal baby," Crilly added, "At £350,000 we have already far exceeded the amount we were predicting we would take in."
The Irish online betting operator Paddy Power has taken in nearly £450,000 and as a Paddy Power spokesperson indicated,
"Whilst most punters are putting down money on the name of the new arrival, we're also seeing bets on everything from the baby's first word to his first nightclub gaffe with old Uncle Harry in tow," Paddy Power is already taking bets on where the royal christening will take place and when the second child will be announced.

The spokesperson for Ladbrokes said it is taking an average of 900 bets an hour on the baby's name, a record for royal-related betting.

As many as nine films are going to be fighting it out at the box-office this week. From famous model aka cricket fan Poonam Pandey to star kid Tanuj, all will try their luck. Then there is multi-starrer laugh riot Bajate Raho.

Nasha: Poonam’s big screen ticket is directed by Amit Saxena who directed Bipasha Basu to voluptuous heights in Jism. Will Nasha work the same jadoo and nasha for Poonam? The producers Aditya Bhatia and Surinder Suneja of Ms Pandey’s debut film Nasha are leaving no stone unturned to generate renewed interest in her colourful personality.

Love U Soniyo: In comparison Rati Agnihotri’s son Tanuj makes his debut but he can’t compete with Poonam Pandey in getting attention. After the excessively-publicised debut of producer Kumar Taurani’s son Girish Kumar last week, Tanuj has wisely chosen to slip gently into the movie business. Says Tanuj, “It’s not an ideal situation for any of the nine films. Speaking for my film Love U Soniyo we’ve tried to make a good honest film and hopefully our film would stand out in the crowd.” The film also marks the debut of model and beauty queen Neha Hinge.

Issaq: Manish Tiwari’s Issaq is a very promising take on Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet which stars Prateik (who is in desperate need of a career resurrection) and debutante Amyra Dastur. It is the season of love as the makers are hoping this goes the Raanjhanaa and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani way...

Bajatey Raho: Eros International’s big-ticket comedy with Bollywood’s own Laurel and Hardy Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey joining hands with Tusshar Kapoor for a melee of masti. Adding to the mirth worth of the comedy is costume designer-actress Dolly Ahluwalia who has discovered a kind of stardom after Vicky Donor. Looks like a load of fun. This is director Sushant Shah’s third film with Vinay after Challo Dilli and Dasvidaniya.

Buddha: A biopic with newcomer Abhishek Urade in the title role. New director Praveen Damle is at the helm of this modestly budgeted biopic.

Ek Bura Aadmi: New director Ishraq Shah’s political drama Ek Bura Aadmi, is a rough, rugged actioner set in the North Indian hinterland. The film has an interesting cast that includes Arunodoy Singh and Kitu Gidwani.

Oops-a-Daisy: Debutant director Jenner Jose’s Oops-a-Daisy, has an entirely new cast of unknowns. It takes guts to release something like this on an over-crowded Friday.

Planes: The Pixar-Disney animation film Planes dubbed into Hindi with Priyanka Chopra as the protagonist’s voice, is also hitting theatres this Friday.

Main Hoon Surya Singham 2: The dubbed Hindi version of the Tamil Singham’s sequel with Surya and Anushka Shetty should find takers among those who love the Singham series. Hari directs.

To add to the woes of the clogged turnstiles this Friday, the new edition of the global smash hit Wolverine franchise also hits theatres this Friday. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh feels this overloaded Friday spells disaster for the Indian box-office. “It is sheer hara-kiri. Doesn’t make any business sense. Why this hurry to release so many films? Where are the theatres to accommodate so many films? How many shows can each film get? Why act in haste and repent on Monday? When will we learn from our mistakes?” Taran feels the average movie-goer cannot accommodate so many films in his budget. He adds, “Does the common man have the time, money or inclination to watch so many films? And when films flop we blame everyone except ourselves.”

Anyone who opens their eyes to the popular media will know that online gambling has become a huge business in the UK, with revenues surpassing the £2 billion mark last year; surely good news for the treasury.

The meteoric rise of online casino UK gambling is probably due to a number of factors, but there seems to be a distinct trio acting as a driving force: sports betting, the online casino, and the popularity of mobile internet devices such as smart phones and tablets.

The online casino has really captures the imagination of a lot of Brits. It offers a many more games than merely the casino favourites of old. Bingo has certainly found a home on the net, with popularity going through the roof due to socially marketed gaming, and free bet rewards. The free bet is a big draw to many potential punters across the gambling board.

Sports betting has always been something we associate with the bookmakers, but where in the past this may have been confined to horse racing, the phenomenon has now spread to football. Football is our national sport, and you’ll notice many gambling ads both at half time and before televised games. Many of these ads will be promoting things like ‘in play’ betting; another big draw for many gamblers who believe they can read games well.

The net is no longer removed from our grasp, the way it was with standalone PCs; it’s now an ever-present on smart phones and tablets. This takes out the need to make the trip to the bookmakers, and it also provides a handy platform for games like bingo and the online casino to run on.

The UK needs to set the standards as far as online gambling goes, and it’ll do this through responsible sites and regulatory bodies like the UK Gambling Commission.

A recent post on the Intellectual Property watch website exposes what the policy is when it comes to the economic war that goes on over e commerce and the internet.

The online gambling business is just as important to smaller nations such as Ireland or Gibraltar or Malta as it is to many larger countries that realize gambling is what some people like to do and the government can benefit from the taxation and license fees.
The ongoing disputes the world over regarding the rules of the internet and money exchange leaves little room for the small country to move forward. Antigua and Barbuda’s online gambling business played it by the rules was backed up by the WTO agreements with the USA and has seen very little for all its diplomatic efforts to be reimbursed after America pulled the plug on online gambling in 2006.

Now in retaliation for the US’s violation of the World Trade Organization General Agreement on Trade in Services the elected government of Antigua and Barbuda is going ahead with pre released plans “to suspend certain concessions and other obligations relating to United States intellectual property rights.”

The island nation’s government release a statement to the press explaining the process. “The seven-member ‘WTO Remedies Implementation Committee,’ is to be chaired by Antiguan Attorney General Mr. Justin Simon QC, is responsible for directing the government’s plan to build the framework necessary to suspend selected US intellectual property rights to the tune of US $21 million per year, effective from April, 2006.” The committee is also tasked with ensuring that the suspension of IPR rights is done “in full compliance with all applicable international and domestic laws that might relate to the suspension of the intellectual property rights.”
Those words just may cause a black cloud to form over the American protectors of intellectual property who are adamant about their copyright policies and rights.

A federal legislator from Nevada has requested that a House of Representatives committee conduct a hearing focused on online gambling.

Rep. Dina Titus (D-NV) has asked the House Energy and Commerce Committee to delve into issues facing the online gambling industry by holding a hearing similar to the one held last week by a Senate subcommittee. Titus is concerned that Internet gaming regulations on a state-by-state framework, including Nevada, may not be the best course of action to properly regulate the industry.

The Nevada lawmaker penned a letter to committee members urging the action be taken, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. It is not yet known whether the committee chairman will find favor with Titus’ proposal.

One week ago, the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Insurance held a meeting that addressed safeguards for consumers regarding online gambling. Titus would like the House committee to take a look at similar issues, but also perhaps delve into the topic of bad actors being permitted into the online poker scheme.

That issue specifically points to New Jersey, which did not include bad actor language in its legislation. The bad actor designation immediately brings to mind PokerStars, who willingly operated in the U.S. post-UIGEA. Many believe that PokerStars should be punished for that action, although the industry’s top poker site has not been convicted of any wrongdoing.

Online poker players will undoubtedly applaud Titus’ request, as the more that federal legislators discuss Internet gambling, the greater the likelihood that federal regulation will one day gain approval. That approval has been stymied in past legislative attempts, but the tide may be turning. Federal lawmakers in support of online gambling see the progress of individual states as an inferior way of regulating the industry and don’t want action on the state level to continue.

Titus reportedly will soon meet with American Gaming Association representatives to discuss the two federal Internet gambling bills recently introduced. As many will recall, the AGA has vehemently opposed PokerStars’ entry into the U.S. online gaming space. A partnership with New Jersey’s Resorts casino is an apparent in for PokerStars, but the AGA will likely have more to say on that issue before all is said and done.

Slowly, painfully and without anesthetic. That’s how the brilliant entertainment of Las Vegas has been killed off over the years.

Once upon a time, lounge singers were international stars and shows were unique spectaculars. Booze flowed freely at bars and lounges, which featured world-class entertainment until the wee hours of the morning. All of this created a general euphoria in casino customers, as well as a connection with them that kept them gambling on property.

Now, you walk into a high-end casino and see a show for $150 a ticket. Do you want to hang out in that casino afterward? After being wallet-raped by that show, I bet that the average person wants to leave that building as quickly as possible and find something more affordable to do.

How much money are casinos losing by attempting to make a profit off everything guests do rather than actually keeping them entertained and happy so that they spend their money on the casino floor — like our mobster forefathers intended?!

Show tickets are harder to sell than ever, and the natural scapegoat is the new nightclub with its overpaid DJs. But that’s not really fair. The nightclubs are actually having the same issue.

I believe the problem is that there is an oversaturation of shows, nightclubs, restaurants, etc. Since guests are rarely offered loss-leading entertainment or meals anymore, their pockets are systematically emptied before they have a chance to see all that Las Vegas has to offer. And the shows, no longer supported financially by casinos, suffer the most.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Las Vegas. A whole style of music was born out of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin’s Las Vegas shows in the 1950s and ’60s, but doesn’t it seem like the only defining entertainment coming out of our town in the past two decades is the imported Cirque du Soleil shows?

Surely, that is the result of the expectation that outside show producers have deep enough pockets to fund their entire production. Even Las Vegas-born Louis Prima Jr. (our management client) had to go on the road to find success, leaving the town in which his father virtually launched the entertainment scene.

But I see a musical light on the horizon. Let me explain.

Las Vegas sprouted in the desert as a completely fake oasis and adult playground. Little of what is associated with this town was originally here, so all of the superlatives were brought in: the best designers, the most talented performers, the most beautiful women and the greediest mobsters.

To create this spectacular-but-fake culture requires a lot of talent. For decades, would-be actresses and rock stars have moved here because they could find steady work serving cocktails or singing in lounge bands, even if stardom ultimately escaped them. But it was only a matter of time before all of this imported culture amounted to something culturally significant.

As I look around our tiny larger-than-life city, it seems like we are on the verge of a great new era of entertainment. We finally have a few international stars as regular headliners on the Strip again, and great new music is again originating from Las Vegas.

Tony Hsieh is investing heavily in downtown, turning it into something that resembles my hometown of Austin, Texas. It is becoming a place where people want to be. And all of those musicians who moved here to make money but are now having trouble finding work? Well, now they are making original music.

Exciting bands such as the Killers, Imagine Dragons and Panic! at the Disco have emerged from Las Vegas. The momentum that is developing here didn’t occur to me until my company recently signed a management deal with the Seattle-based band Eclectic Approach. They were actually excited that their management team was in Las Vegas, which they perceive to be a hotbed of new music.

I’m really looking forward to this next chapter in Las Vegas’ story. I’m optimistic that the entertainment and fun, which originally drew people to the middle of the desert, will be coming back in a big way. I truly hope that the casinos begin to embrace and encourage that, remembering the time when they would seek out the most talented and creative producers rather than the producers with the deepest pockets.

If they do, we will all win.

Real-money gambling and FarmVille just don’t mix.

Zynga chief operations officer David Ko said in an analyst conference call today that the company decided not to invest in U.S. real-money online gambling because it needs to stay focused on social gaming and its core casual audience.

The San Francisco company slightly beat Wall Street expectations, but it continues to bleed users. This, and the decision to withdraw its plans to bid for real-money online gambling licenses in the U.S., led to a tumble in the company’s stock price after-hours trading. The stock is now down about 12 percent to $3.05 a share.

Ko noted that Zynga Poker, the company’s big money maker, slipped in the second quarter because “competitors are closing the gap.” The poker game competes with rivals such as Double Down Interactive and other social casino game companies. Ko said Zynga saw a decline in part because of a rise in “illegitimate credit card activity” on the web, where people pay for virtual poker chips with credit cards. He said he believes the growth in poker is in the casual end of the market, not the real-money gambling side.

“We must stay focused on our priorities. … The decision we made around real-money gambling was around focus,” Ko said after a question from an analyst on the call. He said the company needs to execute on its existing social games.

This change is the first big one since Zynga got a new boss. It hired Xbox boss Don Mattrick as its new CEO on July 1, shifting founder Mark Pincus to chairman and chief product officer. That gave the stock a bounce in the past few weeks, but the mostly dour report is causing investors to think twice.

Pincus introduced Mattrick on the analyst call, saying that he “shares my visions for social gaming” and that he shares his passion for gaming. Pincus said Mattrick set up his office in the middle of the FarmVille studio on his first day, a sign that Mattrick will be focused on games.

“I am here to support Don in whatever way I can,” Pincus said.

Zynga reported revenues of $231 million, down 31 percent from a year ago, and bookings of $188 million, down 38 percent from a year ago. The company lost $16 million, or 1 cent a share. Analysts expected Zynga to report a loss of 2 cents a share on bookings of $181.2 million for the second quarter.

In June, Zynga said it expected a loss of 3 cents to 4 cents per share on revenue ranging from $225 million to $235 million. Last year, Zynga’s second quarter revenue came in at $332 million and earnings per share loss of 3 cents to 5 cents. The company also made cutbacks at various game studios around the world.

Daily active users were just 39 million in the second quarter, down from 52 million in the first quarter and 72 million a year ago. Web DAUs were 23 million and mobile DAUs were 16 million.

Monthly active users were 187 million, down 39 percent from 306 million a year ago and 253 million in the first quarter. Monthly web numbers were 129 million and mobile was at 57 million.

But on the positive side, Zynga’s average daily bookings per average DAU grew from $0.046 in the second quarter to $0.053 in the second quarter, up 14 percent from a year ago. Monthly unique payers were 1.9 million, down from 4.1 million a year ago and down 22 percent from the previous quarter.

Zynga has 2,368 employees today. Mattrick said that he met Pincus when the company had just 100 employees, but he described the chance to join Zynga now as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He noted the firm has $1.5 billion in cash and investments. The aim is to make games social and accessible to everyone.

Opportunities are there for the savvy online gambling service operators who research the needs of their target clients. The internet gambling industry has only one direction to go and that is up.
Mobile gaming is the route that the internet wagering world is headed and that requires a new approach to the process. While older established online gambling operators are making a good living in the saturated and competitive online betting industry in the United Kingdom many start ups are looking for a niche to grasp on to.

The business of producing a product for the mobile gambling client is difficult at the best of times.. A testament to this is the fact that hardly any have managed to start from the bottom and gain any traction. In the UK, for example 32Red and bet365 started from the bottom but did so almost a decade ago while others are just now taking a crack at the games and are trying to survive the stiff competition.

Some of the big brands have been cross-selling online players rather than concentrating on their mobile offerings. Rather than trying to acquire more mobile customers the larger operators have been setting about building greater brand loyalty by giving players more incentives to use their products across multiple platforms.

Tom Light who is head of Tom Light Consulting which specializes in casino and poker marketing explains, “Mobile has definitely created more opportunities for upcoming operators in comparison to the established brands. A new brand can be more flexible when implementing a new innovative technology as oppose to the established brands which take a longer period of time to adapt to the new business structure.” Light added, “New brands can base the profitability of their operation solely on mobile since as of today; there is a large market breath when the market projections sees 2014 global mobile gambling revenues reach $11.4 billion dollars.”

MINISTER of Youth and Culture Lisa Hanna says Jamaica owes a lot to Rastafari for helping to put the country on the map.

Hanna was speaking at the opening of the National Museum of Jamaica at Duke Street, on Sunday.

"Jamaica owes a lot to Rastafari. One of our foremost cultural icons, Bob Marley, had his life and works anchored in Rastafari. His works involved one of our foremost creations, reggae music..." said Hanna.

Her statement drew shouts of 'Jah Rastafari!' from Rastafarians in the audience.

Hanna began her address by quoting from Marley's song, Natty Dread Rise Again.

"....I learned the words very early in life because it symbolises to me what I felt that I needed to do as well," she said.

Hanna noted that the Jamaica National Museum "heralds a new dawn in our history and a reawakening of the cultural consciousness of the Jamaican people and our society".

The exhibition, which runs until year end, showcases Rastafari culture. On display were Rasta paraphernalia as well as information on His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia.

Literature on visionaries including Marcus Garvey, Mortimer Planno, Prince Emmanuel, Archibald Dunkley, and Leonard Howell were available.

"We are advancing a cultural revolution through the expansion and rebranding of the Jamaica Museum of History and Ethnography to include the network of museum involving the Fort Charles Museum in Port Royal, the People's Museum in Spanish Town, the National Museum of western Jamaica in Montego Bay, and the National Museum of Jamaica right here in Kingston."

"Commitment to the preservation of that history, " she added, is evident in the opening of the Roxborough Museum three weeks ago, and the Seville Museum last week.

Zynga is dropping plans to pursue a license for online gambling in the United States, sending the company's shares sharply lower.

Chief Operations Officer David Ko told investors on a conference call late Thursday that Zynga would continue its online gambling efforts in the United Kingdom, but that it was"making the focus choice" not to pursue it for the United States.

The company, which is best known for the online social media game FarmVille, announced in December that it had filed an application for a gaming license in Nevada. It also has been offering online gambling in the U.K. since April.

Shares of Zynga (ZNGA) had been up 50% since the announcement of the Nevada license application through Thursday's close. But the stock plunged 17% in early trading Friday. Problems in getting its U.S. online gambling started have not been the only ones for Zynga.

It announced in June that it would lay off 18% of its workforce as part of an effort to stabilize finances. In July, CEO and founder Mark Pincus stepped down.

The company reported a second-quarter loss Thursday that was wider than the loss in the first quarter. It also warned of more losses in the current quarter.

"As we looked at the social gaming, free-to-play opportunity which continues to grow, we're not executing against that," said Ko on the call with investors. "And so, we really just centered around focus." To top of page

Rapper DMX was arrested on Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence and failing to have a valid driver’s license, Greenville County jail officials told Reuters.

The rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, paid $1,235 in bail and left Greenville County Detention Center after being booked on the charges, jail officials said.

But a representative for the 42-year-old New York-born rapper, who lives in South Carolina, said the DUI charge was never filed officially because Simmons passed a breath test in the jail.

“He was in and out in under an hour,” Domenick Nati of Nati Celebrity Services, Inc, which represents DMX, told Reuters.

Local law enforcement officials could not be reached for comment on the discrepancy.

The rapper was pulled over after an officer noticed the he was not wearing a seat belt, Nati said. He said he did not know if DMX was given a roadside sobriety test.

“Allegations about DMX being arrested for drunk driving are false,” Nati said. “He was arrested but quickly released. X was given a breathalyzer test and easily passed it. He is back at his home in South Carolina and we are continuing our focus on his upcoming album and acting roles.”

The rapper, whose albums include “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot“ and “Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood,” also starred in the movies “Romeo Must Die” and “Cradle 2 The Grave.”

Simmons was arrested in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in February for driving with a suspended license.

Simmons has an extensive arrest record that includes charges of animal cruelty, reckless driving, drug possession, weapons charges and probation violations.

He has had several felony convictions and has served prison time in Arizona.

An online gambling firm plans to buy or build a casino in Atlantic City to get a piece of the Internet wagering action that’s set to launch in the state this year.

It’s another sign of a revival of corporate interest in a city where gambling revenue has been falling since 2006.

MidOil USA managing partner Vincent Crandon said Friday he plans to announce around Labor Day whether his investment firm and online gambling company, 2UP Gaming, will be buying or building.

He said he’s in talks with multiple casinos — though he declined to say which, citing confidentiality agreements — about a sale and is working with an architect on building.

By buying a casino by September, his group could be among those offering internet gambling Nov. 23, the day it becomes legal in New Jersey, Crandon said. If the company builds instead, it could not offer online bets in the U.S. until after that, he said.

Crandon also said an Asian investment group is pledging $330 million for the deal.

“The intent is really to be prepared to build anew,” Crandon said. “It’s not a light endeavor.”

2UP, which is registered in London and has operational offices in West Melbourne, Australia, is the second established international online gambling company to try to buy into Atlantic City this year. The Rational Group, the parent company of Pokerstars, is in litigation over whether it can buy The Atlantic Club Casino Hotel. Pokerstars also has hedged by applying with the state government for permission to run an online casino for Resorts Casino Hotel.

All 12 New Jersey casinos are expected to provide information to the state by Monday on their Internet gambling partners. That’s the deadline to apply to be allowed to open online gambling operations when they are first allowed to launch this year.

New Jersey, Delaware and Nevada have state laws allowing online betting. But so far, the only legal online casino in the U.S. is in Nevada, and it is only available to people in that state.

Under New Jersey’s law, casinos must have a physical presence in Atlantic City to be allowed to offer online gambling.

An online gambling firm that is negotiating to buy an Atlantic City casino filed an application Monday to cash in on New Jersey's Web betting operations, a senior executive said.

London-based 2UP Gaming PLC becomes the latest company to announce its intentions to offer Internet wagering on casino slot machines and table games. Monday was the deadline for applications to be filed with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, the regulatory agency that will issue Internet gambling licenses.

Last week, 2UP announced a partnership with the New York investment firm MidOil USA to buy an existing Atlantic City casino. MidOil's managing director, Vincent Crandon, who will oversee 2UP's operations in North America, said negotiations continue with undisclosed casinos.

Crandon insisted that 2UP and MidOil have every intention of developing a new Boardwalk casino if they can't reach a deal by Labor Day to buy an existing property.

"If we don't have a deal that makes sense, we're just going to build something," he said in an interview.

Under New Jersey's Internet gambling law, casinos must have a physical presence in Atlantic City to offer Web bets. They are lining up partnerships with online companies for Internet gambling sites.

In a preliminary step for entering the Atlantic City market, 2UP filed an application Monday for an Internet license, Crandon said.

"Do we think it is an amazing market opportunity? Yes. Do we think it's a game-changer for New Jersey? Yes," Crandon said of the emerging Internet gambling operations.

Internet wagering represents the biggest expansion of gambling in Atlantic City since the land-based casinos began operating in 1978. Web betting is expected to provide a huge lift for the casinos, with revenue estimates ranging anywhere from $200 million to $1.2 billion annually. Nov. 26 is New Jersey's target date for launching Internet gambling.

"Through marketing efforts, we believe the casinos will significantly boost the market and provide an enhanced gaming opportunity that will supplement the bricks-and-mortar operations," David Rebuck, director of the Division of Gaming Enforcement, said of the impact of Internet gambling.

Although Monday was the deadline for filing paperwork, the division said it would not immediately release the names of the applicants. Names will not be publicly divulged by the division until the companies are added to a list of active vendors, spokeswoman Lisa Spengler said.

Despite Monday's deadline, companies have the freedom of filing Internet applications later on. However, late filers take the chance the division may not be ready to issue them a license by the time Internet gambling goes live in November.

All 12 Atlantic City casinos have notified the division they intend to offer Internet gambling. Some already have announced their partnerships with online firms, while others have held off.

Up to this point, 10 casinos have reached partnerships, according to Wall Street analysts. However, online gambling operators are not guaranteed a New Jersey license simply because they file an application. They will undergo an extensive background check and must meet the state's regulatory requirements for a license.

Previously, the Bally's, Caesars, Harrah's Resort and Showboat casinos, owned by Caesars Entertainment, announced an Internet partnership with 888 Holdings. Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is teaming up with Bwin.party, Resorts Casino Hotel is partnering with PokerStars, and Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort has linked up with Ultimate Gaming.

Golden Nugget Atlantic City will go with its own brand of Internet gambling, using Bally Technologies as its main technology provider. Tom Pohlman, Golden Nugget's general manager, said he believes Internet gambling is shaping up as a multibillion-dollar market across the country and his company wants to play a major role in it.

"Golden Nugget will operate in both Nevada and New Jersey, with the intent to offer online gaming in more states in the future," Pohlman said.

Casino analysts Chad Beynon, of Macquarie Capital, and Andrew Zarnett, of Deutsche Bank, have disclosed other casino-Internet partnerships in reports to investors. They said Tropicana Casino and Resort has teamed up with Gamesys and Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino is partnering with Betfair. Tropicana and Trump Plaza did not immediately respond to emails Monday from The Press of Atlantic City seeking to confirm their Internet partnerships.

Atlantic Club Casino Hotel and Revel Casino-Hotel have not yet negotiated deals with Internet partners, Beynon and Zarnett said. Atlantic Club spokeswoman Cathleen Kiernan said Monday the casino had no announcement to make. Revel executives were not immediately available for comment.

The most controversial company seeking a license is online global gambling giant PokerStars, based on the Isle of Man. PokerStars got together with Resorts after negotiations fell apart for PokerStars to buy the Atlantic Club.

PokerStars has filed a lawsuit in an attempt to complete the sale, but Atlantic Club is resisting. So far, the courts have ruled in Atlantic Club's favor, saying it had the right to back out of the deal after PokerStars failed to secure regulatory approval in time to complete the purchase.

Other companies also hope to take advantage of New Jersey's online gambling. KGM Gaming announced Monday it is the first company to submit a fully operational remote content server for Internet gambling. The next phase calls for testing of the KGM server by the Division of Gaming Enforcement.

KGM, which is based in Philadelphia and has a local facility in Pleasantville, plans to offer an array of Internet casino games for both mobile devices and home computers.

Howard Weiss, KGM's president and chief executive officer, said his company is in negotiations with six casinos for the content server. He declined to name the casinos at this time, but stressed the

More women are becoming gambling addicts due to the rise of online betting.

Rutland Centre clinical director Fiona Weldon said females now make up 20% of those who turn to the Dublin-based charity for help.

Just four years ago it was 4%.

She said: “Traditionally you could only gamble at the bookies and just on sport, but all that changed.

“There’s online bingo, poker and casinos and it’s all so accessible and it’s these activities that the women with gambling addictions tend to participate in.

“It’s there at the click of a button on your phone or the internet.”

Ms Rutland added despite the increase across both sexes in the problem, gambling addiction remains misunderstood.

She said of all types of addictions – including drink and drugs – those who are hooked on gambling are the hardest to detect and face the highest suicide risk.

Ms Rutland explained: “It’s a chronic and relapsing condition with no known cure.

“It’s very challenging for anyone coming out of recovery as they need to take measures like disabling the internet on their phone.

“It is also an addiction that people can hide for longer periods. But when it is found out, it usually all blows up and can destroy a family unit.”

US border agents have found marijuana on a bus with singer Justin Bieber’s tour as it crossed into Detroit from Windsor, Canada.

The Detroit Free Press reported that US Customs and Border Protection spokesman Ken Hammond confirmed that the bus was stopped Sunday as it attempted to enter the US on the Ambassador Bridge.

The singer was not on the bus at the time and performed later that night at Joe Louis Arena.

Hammond says a police dog indicated the presence of drugs on the bus and that drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana were found. He says the bus driver was cited and that the bus and its passengers were allowed to go.
