Huddersfield Town Team Preview

Huddersfield Town

After magically staying up against all the odds, Huddersfield will be entering their second season in the Premier League and once again the odds are stacked against this team to stay up as David Wagner will look to pull of more magic at the club. Huddersfield looked certain to get relegated last year towards the end, but some clutch results and incredible draws away at Man City and Chelsea managed to keep them up. Huddersfield have stayed up thanks to their hard work and great team unity. Talent wise, they were by far the worst side and probably still are in the Premier League, but David Wagner pulling off tactical masterclasses with this squad was enough for them to stay up. Huddersfield were awful going forward scoring only 28 goals in 38 games while going goalless for 21 out of 38 games, meanwhile at the back Huddersfield were really inconsistent because they had games where they were very organised but they also had games where they’d let in 4-5 goals but that’s understandable considering their squad level. Those games where they were well organised were really the ones that helped Huddersfield push through as they racked up just enough points to stay up. Huddersfield have played direct, long ball football in attempts to breaking down teams and it worked at times and it really helped that they had a dead ball specialist in Aaron Mooy to deliver those long balls and he’s going to be very important for Huddersfield. In terms of transfer window, Huddersfield lost key player in Tom Ince whose gone to Stoke but he had a relatively unsuccessful stint in the Premier League so he may not come out as such a huge loss considering that Huddersfield upgraded with two talented wingers in Ramadan Sobhi and Adama Diakhaby and they’ve also signed a young Belgian forward in Isaac Mbenza who will all look to help Huddersfield provide more of an attacking threat which is something they desperate need as they simply cant afford to only score 28 and go goalless for 21 games again as that would more than likely take Huddersfield right down to the Championship. Also Huddersfield have strengthened their backline with additions of Eric Durm and being able to bring back Terence Kongolo and a goalkeeper Jonas Lossl on permanent deals will be crucial as Huddersfield have kept their main defensive minded players while adding a very decent CB from Dortmund. as Huddersfield have had games where they looked really leaky at the back last season and these signing may help them, especially coming up against the big sides.

We can Expect Huddersfield to be a tough outing for opponents, they added some decent players and expect them to leave their all on the pitch in every game and just because talent wise they may be the arguably worst side in the Prem, that still doesn’t change the fact that they play with a lot of heart and their manager is top class so we can’t write them out when it comes to survival battle as they’ve shown us already what happens when you write off Huddersfield. Whether Huddersfield will stay up it’s uncertain, but they will not be a pushover and are totally capable of pulling off another escape in the Premier League.
