Bet on Sports Founder Gary Kaplan Pleads Guilty

Reply Subscribe
Online gambling business owner, Gary Kaplan, pleads guilty to racketeering conspiracy and other charges relating to the founding of online gambling site BetonSports.
Gary Kaplan founded BetonSports in 1995 in Costa Rica, and by 2006, the online gambling site was one of the largest offshore gambling sportsbooks with $1.8 billion in bets annually.
In late 2006, Kaplan, his associates, and his company were indicted by a federal grand jury. In March of 2007 Kaplan was arrested and trial was set for September. Four of Kaplan's associates have also pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.

(The argument of the prosecution was that BetonSports allowed United States citizens to believe that online gambling in the US was legal via phone or website. The company also led customers to believe their money was safe and available for immediate withdrawal).

When Gary Kaplan founded BetOnSports, an online sports betting website, back in 1995, he probably did not see his future sitting in a US prison. :dirol

Online sports gamblers owed money by BetonSports now have the chance to recoup their funds. However, to receive the funds owed, gamblers must file a written petition with the federal court of St Louis. :dirol
