Barcelona
Out of the squad, new keeper Marc-André ter Stegen, Douglas, Sandro, Pedro, Marc Bartra, Martín Montoya and Gerard Piqué arguably have the most to gain from added minutes. Whether Lucho thinks it is necessary to instill that in his players at this point in the season is up to him. But it’s something that needs to be addressed before injuries start to make Lucho’s choices for him. Piqué’s lack of confidence against Athletic Bilbao was smellier than a rotting gazelle on the Serengeti, and any poacher of a forward worth his mettle will put as much pressure as possible on the out-of-form defender. By the same token, a rusty Adriano and Montoya could prove shaky cover for Jordi Alba at left back once his swashbuckling tendencies inevitably get him a hamstring injury.

Bayern Munchen
Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich experiment has thus far been largely characterised by a free-flowing, dynamic style that can only be praised. Yet, despite their utter dominance of German domestic football, there can be no mistaking that Champions League glory is the ultimate prize for the Bavarian giants. They seem likely to miss the talismanic figure of Arjen Robben this week due to injury, while Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thiago Alcantara are also set to miss the action. Javi Martinez is also unavailable, which will almost certainly necessitate the inclusion of Xabi Alonso in the holding role alongside Lahm.

Manuel Pellegrini will be banned from the touchline on Wednesday following comments he made in the wake of their Champions League exit to Barcelona last season. Pablo Zabaleta is also suspended, which will see the vastly experienced figure of Bacary Sagna charged with the unenviable task of marking Franck Ribery. I’m certain that Pellegrini will opt for one striker up front, considering the talent at Munich’s disposal. Fernandinho and Toure will offer a muscular force in midfield, while Pellegrini would be wise to utilise the electrifying pace of Navas on the counterattacks.

Botafogo RJ vs Figueirense

Home - Botafogo RJ
Last away matches - L-L-L-L-L-D

All this tells us that Botafogo will now be highly motivated to come to another triumph over Figueirense, especially since they are playing on their field, where they this season already provided much better performances than away. However, they have not justified this epithet of the host team two rounds ago against Atletico Paranaense, when they lost with 2-0, while they before that suffered two defeats against Cruzeiro and Fluminense away, so it is no surprise that they have after a long time again fallen in the danger zone.

Away - Figueirense
Last away matches - D-L-L-L-L-L

Figueirense is much more relaxed before this duel since they won four very important points after the last two rounds, first at home against Chapecoense and then they played a draw away with Atletico Mineirao. Specifically, in this way, coach Argel’s players have again managed to flee a few points from the teams that are in the danger zone, which actually means that they in the remaining four rounds only need points from the matches with Victoria and Internacional to survive in the league.

Chelsea vs W.B.A

Home - Chelsea
Last away matches - W-D-W-D-W-W

Jose Mourinho is likely to be very happy that the final international break until March is out of the way and he can now concentrate on setting Chelsea up for a successful season which they have already laid solid foundations for. The Portuguese manager would also have been satisfied with the way Iberian neighbours Spain dealt with both Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, who were allowed to withdraw from the national squad, although there are no signs that the disagreement with Spanish national manager Vicente Del Bosque is going to end. There won't be much concern about that for the next few months as Chelsea can focus completely on club matters as we get closer to the hectic festive period that the players dislike, but the fans love. With a 4 point lead at the top of the Premier League, Chelsea players are probably more excited about being able to take a stranglehold of the chase for the title, beginning by improving their 5-0-0 record at Stamford Bridge where the Blues have scored 13 goals and conceded 3.

Away - W.B.A
Last away matches - W-L-L-W-L-D

It is the nature of the Premier League this season that a couple of good results can propel a side quickly up the table, but a couple of bad results and a side will quickly find themselves in a precarious position. For teams like West Brom, getting to the 40 point mark as quickly as possible is the only concern for them and the Baggies are in line to do that after the first 11 games played this season. A defeat to Newcastle United sent West Brom into the international break in 13th position in the Premier League table with 13 points earned so far this season. That means they are 4 points clear of Leicester City in the bottom three, but also only 5 points behind West Ham United in 4th place which highlights how quickly things can change in the table at the moment. The side have a 2-1-2 away record this season in the League, scoring 3 goals and conceding 5. West Brom have won just 1 of their last 6 games in all competitions, which has also seen them exit the League Cup, since winning 3 in a row. They do come into this game having won 2 of their last 3 away games in the Premier League, both by the same 0-1 scoreline, at Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City.

Everton vs West Ham United

Home - Everton
Last away matches - D-W-D-L-D-D

The rows between clubs and countries during international breaks extended to one between the Republic of Ireland and Everton this week as Roy Keane implied Everton encourage their Irish players to avoid playing for the national side. While Roberto Martinez is expected to respond to those claims later in the week, the immediate concern for Everton will be to continue moving up the Premier League table after a disappointing start to the season. The side went into the international break in lowly 10th place in the Premier League table, although the goal of breaking into the top four and a Champions League place is well within the grasp of Everton. It looks like being an open race for those positions, but that does mean winning games like this at Goodison Park where Everton have an unsatisfactory 1-2-2 record, scoring 10 goals but conceding 11. Everton are unbeaten in their last 6 games in all competitions since their unfortunate 2-1 loss at Manchester United, but half of those games have ended in draws. They have won 3 of their last 5 games at Goodison Park in all competitions, and have only suffered 1 loss in that time, but Everton could only earn a goalless draw in their last home Premier League game against Swansea.

Away - West Ham United
Last away matches - D-W-L-D-W-L

How many West Ham United fans still want to see Sam Allardyce removed as manager? It looked almost certain that Allardyce would leave the club in the summer for not playing the 'West Ham way', while he was a favourite in the 'Sack Race' going into the season, but the former Bolton Wanderers manager has been winning plaudits this season. After being told by the owners to improve the attacking aspect of West Ham United performances, the arrival of Teddy Sheringham as a Coach has certainly helped Sam Allardyce in producing those. The positive performances have also produced positive results and West Ham United surprisingly sit in 4th place in the Premier League with 18 points under their belt. The Hammers have a 2-2-1 away record this season, scoring 11 goals and conceding 8. West Ham United are unbeaten in their last 5 games, but they have drawn back to back Premier League games against Stoke City and Aston Villa. They have recovered from their sole loss on their travels at Manchester United by beating Burnley 1-3 at Turf Moor before West Ham fought back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw with Stoke City at the Brittania Stadium.

Under-fire Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew must have been disappointed that the international break has disrupted his side’s amazing turnaround in form, but they host second from bottom club Queens Park Rangers at St James’ Park this afternoon as they bid to make it five Premier League wins on the trot. Newcastle are unbeaten in their last five, while they’ve won their last four on the bounce with victories over Leicester City, Tottenham, Liverpool and West Brom as The Magpies have eased away from the bottom three and now sit in the relative comfort of 8th place just two points adrift of Swansea City who currently occupy the last remaining european spot.

Manchester Ciy will not want to fall victims to Swansea who have already managed a victory in Manchester this season and will be looking to claim another big scalp on their travels. Manchester City have had some difficult matches and no doubt that boss Manuel Pellegrini has been under pressure of late. It has not been smooth sailing for Champions Manchester City. Still they are even one point better off at this stage than they were at this point last season. Manchester City have won just the one game in their last six in all competitions, but do have a strong home record against Swansea going into this match. Manuel Pellegrini's side have won 11 and lost only one of their thirteen previous home games against Swansea, so they do start this match as the favourites. When the sides met last season Manchester City came out as 3-0 winners. For the record, Manchester City have won four and lost just one of the last six Premier League matches against Swansea. Under Manuel Pellegrini, Manchester City have lost just the two and won 20 of their 24 Premier League matches at the Etihad Stadium.

Swansea no doubt that Garry Monk has managed to guide them to their best ever start to a Premier League season, having collected 18 points from 11 matches to date. That is the second big scalp they have claimed this season because they also took out Manchester United on the opening weekend of the season. However, that win at Old Trafford has been their only away win of the season and after that they have gone W0 D2 L2 away from home. Their best bet to score will no doubt be Wilfried Bony.

Stoke City vs Burnley

Walters may not be the most prolific of strikers but he has had a fairly good career at Stoke and has become one of their top players. The Irishman has made seven appearances in the forward position for Stoke so far this season and has scored two goals. According to Squawka-com, he has attempted six shots at goal and has got half of these on target. He has managed to create six chances for his team mates and one of these resulted in an assist for him. One area where Walters is usually quite strong is in his duels. This season, he has won three of the four tackles he has attempted and successfully taken on opponents six times from nine attempts. However, most likely due to his height, he has only won 21 of his 48 aerial duels and this brings his overall duel success percentage down to 50%. He can be a threat for Stoke and Burnley’s weak defence will have to look out for him.

Away - Burnley
Last away matches - L-D-L-D-L-W

Choosing a key player for Burnley is never easy but Ings, despite his form, is one of their better players and the one who has the potential to upset Stoke on Saturday. He has made eight appearances for Burnley this season and has scored one goal for the club. According to Squawka-com, he has only managed to get 28% of his 18 shots on target and despite creating seven chances for his team mates, he has yet to create an assist. He does have a 75% passing accuracy but in contrast with Walters, Ings has only been successful in 32% of his overall duels. Ings’ problems up front have to be put in context with Burnley’s attacking problems. If he can improve his form starting with Stoke this Saturday, then there is no reason the rest of the team can’t do the same.

After winning the FA Cup last season and ending a near ten year wait for silverware, many expected Arsenal to kick on and challenge for the Premier League and possibly the Champions League. Neither of those ambitions are expected to be realised this season and Arsenal could be in for a real fight to simply finish in the top four of the Premier League and return to the Champions League for next season. They come into the weekend in 6th place and Arsenal are just 2-3-0 in the League at the Emirates Stadium, scoring 10 goals and conceding 6. A 5 game unbeaten run in all competitions came to an end just prior to the international break as Arsenal let a 0-1 lead slip into a 2-1 defeat at Swansea, which came hot on the heels of a 3-3 draw with Anderlecht in the Champions League, a game they had led 3-0. Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 5 home games in all competitions, but they have drawn 3 of those games, and only ended a run of 3 consecutive home League draws when they scored late goals to beat Burnley 3-0.

Away - Manchester United
Last away matches - L-D-L-D-L-D

Louis Van Gaal has changed his mind about being judged in three months which he asked for when coming in as Manchester United manager and now requests he needs three years to turn the fortunes of the club. Like Arsene Wenger, Van Gaal didn't strengthen a defence that lost experienced faces in the summer and it has been problems in that area of the pitch that have prevented Manchester United from putting together a consistent run of results. At the start of the weekend, Manchester United are 8th in the Premier League table and they are 2 points behind West Ham United in the top four, which remains the only reasonable target for Van Gaal this season. Getting back into the Champions League is imperative for a club of this size, but that means improving on a 0-3-2 away record which has seen Manchester United score 6 goals, but concede 9. Manchester United have only lost 1 of their last 6 games, but they needed to end a run of 3 games without a win by beating Crystal Palace 1-0 at Old Trafford prior to the two week break. Away from home has been a real problem for Manchester United as they have now failed to win any of their last 9 on their travels in all competitions and have lost half of their 6 away games this season.

Levante vs Valencia

Last away matches - D-L-D-D-W-D

Although Levante are still in the relegation zone, it should be noted that team already made an improvement under new coach Lucas Alcaraz. First of all, they scored first goals at home and got points from a game against Almeria. It’s also worth to notice that they managed to get 1 point from a game against Sevilla, at a very tough ground Sanchez Pizjuan. Now, there comes another tough test, derby match against Valencia. “They are favourites. Considering the amount of points they have, their position in the table, budget, Valencia must be regarded as favourites to win the game. We are coming into this game in good frame of mind, after good matches against Almeria and Sevilla, but Valencia are top quality team and it will be very hard,” said defender David Navarro. “For our fans derby is the most important game of season. We are working hard and we will try to win this game. But it will be hard, Valencia have very strong squad this season, they score almost 3 goals per game in this campain,” said midfielder Ruben Garcia. Hector Rodas, Pedro Lopez and Gavilan resumed trainings but it’s too early for them to feature in league match. Rafael Martins still remains injured. Lucas Alcaraz decided not to call up El Adoua, Xumetra and Víctor Pérez for this game.

Valencia are doing well, but just before the international break ‘Los Che’ only managed to get a goalless draw against Athletic Bilbao at Mestalla and in fact they were closer to losing than winning this match. Now, there comes first derby of Valencia city for coach Nuno Espirito Santo. “We have good feelings, but it will be a difficult match. We are concentrated and motivated. Although we realize how important this game is, we are preparing for this encounter as for any other. Levante have improved with coach Lucas Alcaraz. They have a clear idea of playing football and they are more efficient now. Levante proved their quality in the last games against Almeria and Sevilla. They have top quality players such as Ruben, Barral or Ivanschitz,” said coach Nuno. Good news is that midfielder Dani Parejo has a chance of recovering in time for this game, but Paco Alcacer is definitely sidelined, besides left-back Gaya is a major doubt.

Elche vs Cordoba

Last away matches - D-L-D-L-W-L

Elche defeated Espanyol at the beginning of the month, to earn their first three points at home and Jonathas was the artisan of that victory. The Brazilian striker has scored more goals this season than all his teammates combined, which says a great deal about his ability to play, but also the weakness of other players. He will play tonight for sure but he will be probably accompanied by Rodriguez. It's been a while since Elche didn't have any players injured or suspended and the timing couldn't be better, since this is a game of critical importance. Córdoba is not a top opponent but one that they are competing against in the race to avoid relegation, so any points split are points lost.

Away - Cordoba

Córdoba is a mess and with Ghillas being the best scorer, it is unlikely that things will change for the better in the foreseeable future. The Algerian striker has three goals to his name and will be the only player to feature in the offensive tonight. Another draw on the road wouldn't help him too much, but as things are going right now, the visitors would gladly settle for a single point.

Villarreal are not doing well in the recent weeks. Since the end of October team lost 3 matches (2 in La Liga and 1 in Europa League) and got 1:1 draw from La Liga match against Espanyol. Players are now optimistic after the international break. “We will have a lot of games this month. Our aims for the next few weeks are to qualify to the next phase of Europa League and get close to the European spots in La Liga. We need to remain confident. Getafe are a very strong team, but we have also quality and we are playing at home so we must look for all 3 points,” said defender Gabriel. “Team spirit is very good and we remain united. There were always a great atmosphere in the dressing room. We need to end recent bad run and we need to start moving up again. That’s why game against Getafe is very important. El Madrigal must be our fortress. It’s the most important match of this season for us so far. I am very happy at this club and I am thankful for the coach. I’m becoming better and better footballer,” said striker Gerard Moreno. “Recently we dropped some points in the final minutes of games, in the past such things didn’t happen. We need to win 2 or 3 games in a row. International breaks are always helpful when you’re in bad run,” said midfielder Manu Trigueros. So, hosts are motivated to get a win. However, it may not be easy cause a couple of very important players may miss this game. Giovani dos Santos is out, captain Bruno Soriano is very doubtful. Musacchio, Perez and Jokic are long-term injuries.

Aston Villa vs Southampton

Home - Aston Villa
Last away matches - D-L-L-L-W-W

Aston Villa is at the moment most concerned by the fact that they in the last seven Premiership rounds recorded six defeats and only one draw, and that was in the last round away against West Ham. Of course many believe that this should in fact be a hint of return of their good form from the start of the season, thanks to which they recorded three wins and one draw and therefore despite the desperate last series continue to be outside the relegation zone.In addition, coach Lambert is encouraged by the fact that they a long time again managed to preserve their network intact, so the last line will probably remain unchanged in this match with Southampton. But on the other hand, their strikers scored only one goal in the last seven games, so we certainly expect a lot from them in this segment, regardless of the fact that Benteke is still suspended. Let us add that their defenders Hutton, Baker and Senderos, midfielder Delph and striker Kozak are all out of action for this match due to injuries.

Away - Southampton
Last away matches - W-W-L-W-W-W

Southampton is having its brightest moments in the Premiership this season, considering that they are on the impressive second place after 11 rounds, with four points behind the leading Chelsea, and four points more than the third-ranked Manchester City. In addition, coach Koeman recorded even 11 wins in the 12 matches played, eight of which in the championship and three in the League Cup, where they managed to qualify in the quarterfinals. When we add the fact that they received only five goals in the Premiership this season, which is by far the least of all in the league, it is quite clear that they are in a great mood before this match at Villa Park. However, coach Koeman is trying in all ways to mitigate this euphoria a little bit, especially because he knows that their opponents would take them a lot more seriously in the rest of the season, while Aston Villa this time has an additional motive because they want to redeem to their fans for the last blunder. Let us add that midfielders Davis and Ward-Prowse and striker Rodriguez are all out of action due to injuries.

Granada vs Almeria

Last away matches - D-D-L-L-W-D

Granada again had a bad start of the season, except that now the agony has somehow extended and continues till this moment. Like in previous seasons Granada is weaker at home and are in a situation to poorly play a series of matches failing to win each and every of them. Before, it could cost them dearly but it is too early to consider that scenario, however, if we have in mind individual quality of their players the showed was very bad; just two wins, only one at home and just two goals scored at home.Only six goals scored in total is way too little for this team, who have the result of five defeats and two draws in the last seven games. The only thing that is not depressive is a fact that have managed after the debacle by Real to win one point in Vigo, although they didn’t score in that match and that El-Arabi is back in the starting lineup. Now the biggest problem is injury of goalkeeper Robert who will have to pause this match, and instead Olazabal goes among the post.

Away - Almeria
Last away matches - L-L-W-W-L-W

Almeria are in a series of four consecutive defeats and that is very bad, although they deserve more if we take into account the way how they play. Those are mostly minimal defeats and it must be said that this team also have no luck. It started with the defeat at home by Athletic Bilbao 1-0, then in the away match against Levante they received a goal in the finish of the match for the final 2-1, while in the last round they kept great Barcelona uncertain about the outcome for a long time but in the finish they again received a goal, 2-1. The novelty in the couple of latest matches is that the new first striker is Thievy Bifouma, who even scored against Barcelona, while the rest of the team has stayed pretty much the same.Coach Rodriguez rotated the defence a bit, so Fran Velez played instead of dos Santos, while in midfield Azeez replaced Mendez. Now in that midfield there will be no Thomas because of yellow cards, so new changes are inevitable. This could mean that Mendez returns in the team, and that dos Santos could again play the stopper.

CSKA Moscow, after defeating Manchester City in the last round, have now realistic chances of progressing to the next round. Russian champions started this CL campaign poorly (with 1:5 defeat against Roma), but now things are looking more brightly for them. “In the first match we had problems dealing with their attackers. Therefore there is no point in just singling out Francesco Totti. As you know, we are not playing against individuals. We will analyze the way Roma play and our coach will have his input,” said defender Aleksei Berezutski. He was also asked if weather conditions will help his side to get a win: “Every single time there are the same questions that clubs from southern countries hate the cold. Some teams like Porto come here and see snow for the first time. That said, it has not really helped us in the past.” Coach Leonid Slutsky remains optimistic, despite the fact that CSKA have some missings for this game: “We have a good chance of qualifying from the group and we need to make the most of this opportunity. We have problems in midfield, but we’ll try to solve them. The loss of Bebras Natcho is a blow and tonight we will know if Pontus Wernbloom will be able to play. Other option is moving Alessandro Florenzi to defense. Because Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Leandro Castán are sidelined as well, Italians have just two central defenders available for this encounter: Kostas Manolas and Davide Astori. It’s also expected that Jose Holebas will play as left-back, instead of Ashley Cole. Again, players were asked about weather conditions: “Of course, the weather affects the preparation for the game. Manchester City knows that it will be the end of the road for them if they fail to pick up a win in this match against Bayern Munich who have already won the group. Manuel Pellegrini's City side have yet to win a match in the group and it will be a tall order for them to get a win against the powerful German side. It waits to be seen if Manchester City have something special in them to get a win and give them a chance for the round of sixteen. The English Champions have just two points from the group after four matches played and their midfield is depleted with the absence of Yaya Toure and Fernandinho for this clash due to suspensions. After losing to Bayern Munich on matchday one, City are still looking for their first win in the Champions League this season. They were held at home against AS Roma then threw away a two goal lead against CSKA Moscow for the 2******2 draw and were beaten at home 2******1 against the Russians as well. Now City will start the game being two points behind Roma and Moscow at the bottom of Group E.

Bayern Munich are in a good form at the moment and in Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller they have two players who are carrying a big threat at the moment for them. The Germans did after all score 7 goals on Matchday 3 against Roma and that was their largest ever European away win when they won 7****** 1. It should be noted that Pep Guardiola’s men have lost just one of their last 13 UEFA Champions League away matches, and they are unbeaten on their last five visits to England. If you take into account the win over Borussia Dortmund in the 2013 UEFA Champions League Final, then Bayern have posted a W4 D1 L0 record on their last five visits to England. Bayern Munich's overall record against English sides on the road though, is W5 D8 L6. Bayern Munich are dominant at the moment, they have won 11 of their last 12 matches and have scored 32 in their last eight games in all competitions during that run.

Schalke 04 vs Chelsea

Schalke if they can get the win here then they can go level on points with Chelsea so they will be highly motivated for this clash. When they met at Stamford Bridge back on Match Day One, Klaas******Jan Huntelaar scored for Schalke and the match ended in a draw. Since that match at Stamford Bridge, Schalke followed it with a home win against Maribor and then were involved in two high scoring games. After an injury time penalty kick gave them a 4******3 home win over Sporting, they lost the return game against the Portuguese side 4******2 a few weeks later. That is nine goals in their four Champions League matches that they have conceded now. And since they last met, former Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo took over on 7th October and during his time in charge, Schalke have won four and lost three matches. So there is little consistency in his time in charge.Schalke have won ten, drawn five and lost five of their last 20 European home matches and when they hosted Chelsea in last season’s group stage, they were beaten 3******0 and in that match they were outplayed and outclassed by the English Premiership side.

Away - Chelsea
Last away matches - W-D-W-D-W-W

Chelsea are unbeaten so far after playing 18 matches in the 2014/2015 season and have won 14 of those. That is very impressive and last weekend they beat West Brom 2******0 and should have scored more goals in that match. In the Champions League, Chelsea are three points ahead of Schalke and just need a point to top the group, despite being held to disappointing draws against Maribor and Schalke previously. Even though they are playing away from home tonight, their opponent is not a solid side to say the least. In five previous matches against Schalke Chelsea have conceded just one goal. However it should be stressed that their clean sheet against West Brom last weekend was their only clean sheet in their last six games. Chelsea have players who can score for them so look none other then the likes of Diego Costa, Loic Remy and Didier Drogba to get on the scoresheet here.

With a Cyprus Supercup and two victories in the first two rounds of the Cypriot Championship in the back pocket, APOEL is off to a usual good start. And considering manager Giorgos Donis made off with a league and cup double last season, he certainly knows how to get the better of his opponents.Defensive veteran John Arne-Riise is perhaps the most recognizable name in the Cyprus squad, but his fitness will prevent him from taking the field. Greek central defender Anastasios Papazoglou has just returned from injury and will bolster the back line tasked with marking Barcelona’s pesky strikers.

Zenit had excellently started the Champions League right with a victory in Lisbon, which created a very favourable situation for the continuation of the competition. However, as the competition progressed Zenit played weaker and weaker when came a home draw with Monaco, which was followed by two defeats by Bayer, so are now in a rather awkward situation and have to win this match, if they want to have a manuverable space in the last round to play tactics. It seems that Zenit right at home have major problems as they failed at both CL matches so far and they play somewhat weaker both in the championship and the Cup in recent time. They have been eliminated from the Cup, while in the championship other rivals also made mistakes so are still the leaders with eight points advantage of the second in the standings. They defeated unpleasant Kuban on Saturday by a minimal result of 1-0. Zenit have no bigger problems with injuries so the strongest team will surely run out on the pitch.

On the other hand, Benfica play better and better after the opening shock caused by Zenit. They lost in the second round in Leverkusen but then they finally put the things together and finished two matches against Monaco with a clean sheet. They played away 0-0, while in the last round at home they were breaking the opponents resistance for a long time but eight minutes before the end they had scored the winning goal. That has practically left them in the game for the Round of 16 but now they must make a good result in this match, which would allow them to find out what is their destiny in the last round when will face Bayer at home.In the championship had won two times in a row, alongside the victory in the Cup and hold the leading position. Arsenal form against German opposition has not been the best as well. The last time they beat Dortmund was back in November 2011 and that put them in a six match winning streak against Bundesliga sides. However, since then, Arsenal have lost their last four in a row against German teams. Arsenal hold a W9 D1 L5 home record against German clubs, and overall that is W14 D6 L11. This will be the third time in four seasons that Arsenal have been paired with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. Early in the group on match day one, Dortmund cruised to a 2******0 win over Arsenal.

Last away matches - D-L-W-W-L-W

Borussia Dortmund comes into this match having already qualified and while Arsenal looks set to follow them, Dortmund holds the advantage of winning the group as they face each other at The Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night. Finishing second (again) could cost Arsenal a lot especially when you consider that they could face bigger teams when it comes to the draw for the last 16. A draw is enough to send Arsenal through to the knockout phase however. Arsenal are currently five points behind Borussia Dortmund in the group after their slip ups in the group stage. The Gunners have put up a poor D1 L2 record in their last three games in all competitions. It came about after the 3******3 draw against Anderlecht, where Arsenal blew a three goal lead after the sixty minute mark. Last away matches - L-W-W-L-W-L

This defeat in Greece is for now the only defeat that Atletico suffered this season in the Champions League, since they after that made three consecutive wins, at home against Juventus, and in both duels with the Swedish Malmo. In this way, the last year’s finalists of the competition took to leadership position in this Group A, but in order to stay there they need this win over the Greek champions, who owe it to them, so we believe that coach Simeone will do everything what is in his power to better prepare this match. And certainly that an excellent introduction for that was their performance last weekend in the domestic championship, when they at home routinely came to a triumph of 3-1 against Malaga, after which they returned to third place in La Liga. This was their sixth triumph in the last seven games, which only tells us that they are in great shape and are certainly big favourites on Wednesday night at Vicente Calderon. When it comes to absences, only the injuries defenders Gamez and Miranda and midfielder Suarez are out of action for this match.

The team of Olympiakos has in the previous four rounds of the Champions League won only points at home, where they besides Atletico celebrated also against Juventus, while they suffered two unfortunate defeats of 3-2 in the last round in Turin and in the second round in Malmo. This last defeat could cost them dearly, especially if they lose in Madrid, so coach Michel announced that he will on Wednesday night set a very brave lineup with the aim to just like against Juventus try to get to goal and score as soon as possible.Of course the fact that they are currently somewhat more relaxed than their rivals means a lot to them in this match, because a complete round was delayed last weekend in Greece, and therefore coach Michel had enough time to prepare his players for this encounter in Madrid. Otherwise, Olympiakos is second after nine rounds in the Greek league, but with only two points behind the leading PAOK, while we should also mention that their central defender Siovas and strikers Olaitan are unable to perform in this match due to their injuries.

A draw would be golden for Malmo in this game. Malmo has 3 points, Juventus has 6 points (tied with Olympiakos) and Atletico Madrid leads with 9 points. Swedish team really impressed so far in UCL from the qualifiers to the group stage … But after two good games in the first two rounds (0-2 at Juventus, 2-0 vs. Olympiakos) they got anihilated 7-0 by Atletico Madrid over two matches (0-5, 0-2) and maybe people are starting to read their style. The form of Malmo has also decreased even in Sweden: lost two of the last three games in Allsvenskan and in the last two games they made draws in the Supercup and the Cup (won both games eventually). Malmo had the chance to rest this weekend after playing a lot of football in past weeks, so they should be fresh … they are also healthy, only Hammar is questionable.

Away - Juventus
Last away matches - W-W-L-L-D-L

Juventus in big need of the win after playing shaky so far … they thought they could limit their energy spending like the top teams but were surprised and now are in a precarious position. Juventus won the last 4 matches, including 3-2 vs. Olympiakos in Champions league, and in this winning streak they post a 15-2 goal difference, so very impressive. Juve beat strong Lazio 3-0 Saturday in Rome. Barzagli and Caceres are unavailable and Ogbonna, Evra, Asamoah, Pepe are questionable.Malmo is a bit out of form in the last two months, not the same team they were early in UCL … and an old fox like Juventus will take advantage for sure. Visitors are depserate to win, they are in excellent form and of course have much more quality than Malmo in all departments. Experience also is key argument. I see Juventus winning the game and putting at least two goals past Malmo, probably not allowing any. My tip is Juventus to win with 1,25 goal asian handicap. Correct score

There is of course no stigma against Schalke lose, especially since the wolves came back into the game after conceding three goals conceded again and had even brought almost a draw at the end. In this game, Rodriguez was again left outside it, as he is now back questionable. Probably coach Hecking it will save for the big match against Borussia Monchengladbach. Everton look more comfortably than in Wolfsburg, because the team has a point and even a home game in the last round more. But the players from Everton also already very tired and could lead to certain changes in the starting lineup. Today's guests have a positive series and although they have not lost in seven games. They have cashed in two months or since the away match against Manchester United in early October no defeat. However, they have not only won because they have the same number of draws and wins. When this series is continued, then now is a draw on the series, as they defeated West Ham last weekend at home. This long unbeaten run has helped them but not a great deal to make progress table as part of the Premier League. Currently they are in fact third in the table. Many players are injured not there, but Everton has yet ready enough good players. The starting lineup has played the last championship game, but suffer certain changes.

An eventual victory against the Andalusians they would catapult namely on the first place in the group, while, away could act fairly relaxed with standard in the last round.

The Hammers are actually as high as 6th in the Premier League table, but it would be a real surprise if they can maintain that kind of position for the rest of the season. However, a win on Saturday could see them potentially move back into the top four and it has been an exciting startto the season for West Ham United. They have a decent 3-1-2 record at home this season, scoring 8 goals and conceding 6 in those games. West Ham United had been unbeaten in 5 games but saw that run snapped in a 2-1 loss at Everton last weekend, although it has to be said that Sam Allardyce's men were unfortunate in that game. The side had won 3 in a row at Upton Park before the goalless draw with Aston Villa when it can be said that West Ham were perhaps unfortunate not to win that game too. One manager who was seemingly one more negative result from being sacked was Alan Pardew a few weeks ago, but he clearly retains the support of the players, if not the fans, at Newcastle United. Mike Ashley held off from pushing the button on Pardew's future as manager and that seems to have been a good move as Newcastle United moved up the Premier League table and into the Quarter Final of the League Cup. The side are now 5th in the Premier League table and would be in the top four if not for an inferior goal difference compared with Manchester United. Newcastle United have a 2-2-2 away record in the League and have scored 6 goals but conceded 8 in those games. Since a 1-0 loss at Stoke City put Alan Pardew on the brink of being sacked as manager, Newcastle United have responded with a 7 game unbeaten run while they have won 6 in a row heading into this game. Atletico Madrid managed to win a couple of days ago home match against Olympiacos Piraeus in the UEFA Champions League (4:0), as a result Diego Simeone’s men have already reached promotion to the next stage of those competitions. Hero of that game was Mario Mandzukic, who scored a hattrick. Recently he was becoming criticized by some people, however with this great performance Mandzukic showed that he’s a top-class footballer. In total, he has now 11 goals scored for a team from Vicente Calderon. Also Raul Garcia scored a goal in the match against Olympiakos. It was a special game for him as he made his 66th appearance for Atletico in European competitions. By doing that he equaled record of Adelardo Rodriguez, one of club’s biggest legends. “I think Adelardo’s achievement was better than mine, at those times there weren’t so many games as nowadays. Most important thing is the team. We are now not thinking about anything else but win against Juventus. We want to top our group and we’ll go to Italy in order to win,” said Raul Garcia. “He reminds me in some way. I want him to play as many matches as possible. He deserves only the best things. Raul Garcia is a complete player, he can play on many different positions,” said Adelardo Rodriguez. Captain Gabi is suspended for the match against Deportivo, whereas Miranda and Tiago are injured.

We must be very focused in a game against Atletico. It’s a very strong side, with quality midfield and very good defense. Simeone makes their players being concentrated for entire match. I want to play, I feel well with 4 defenders as well as with 5,” said goalkeeper Fabricio. Visitors have some absences as Lopo is suspended, whereas Lucas Perez and Luis Farina injured. Deportivo will play probably very defensively. Sevilla vs Granada

Sevilla doesn’t play as it used to and it is now clear, because they played three matches and haven’t won, while they won just once in the last five matches. They started well and even shared the first places, while in the Europa League had kept the situation under control. The situation now is a bit different, although they the situation under control when the place in the knockout phase is in question. It is a question is this crisis or a reality, given that several important players have left Sevilla and it wasn’t expected to be so good in La Liga.Besides, they played away matches in Bilbao and Barcelona and it was no wonder that they lost, so the only problem remains the draw at home with Levante. They lost an away match of the Europa League on Thursday to Feyenoord and now must stay undefeated in the last round against Rijeka. It shouldn’t be a problem, but before that they should win this match in order to break with the negative series. They have no bigger problems with absenteeism and only Coke is missing because of yellow cards while Iborra is injured.

Away - Granada
Last away matches - D-D-L-L-W-D

There is no doubt in Granada that are in a crisis because this team play poorly for a long time, so can be happy that are not already in the relegation zone. They are particularly bad at home, but are not much better when play away. The last time they won was more than two months ago and it happened in Bilbao when no one expected it. After that they hosted Levante and it was supposed to be a continuation of good series but instead they lost and since then only occasionally succeed to draw. The only one worth mentioning is the one in Vigo with Celta and without goals, because if Granada footballers concede one then they usually lose. The reason is chronic inefficiency, so the team on average score one at every second match. They are by far the most inefficient team in the entire league, which is quite odd given the individual quality of this team. In the last round they drew with Almeria 0-0, although they had a player more on the pitch for almost the complete second half. On top of it, midfielder Rochina has injured and he will skip this match, while stopper Murillo is questionable.

Atletico Madrid vs Deportio La Coruna

Last away matches - L-W-W-L-W-L

Deportivo La Coruna are struggling and now comes a tough match for them at Vicente Calderon. “As always, we are aiming for a win. They are very aggressive and competitive,” said coach Victor Fernandez. “There is a pressure since the beginning of the season. Our aim is to avoid relegation. Last weekend, against Real Sociedad, they did better after the break when offensive midfielder Juan Dominguez was replaced by defensive midfielder Cezary Wilk. Deportivo may use formation with 3 central defenders in this game.

Sevilla vs Granada

Home - Sevilla
Last away matches - L-L-W-L-W-D

Cordoba vs Villarreal

Home - Cordoba
Last away matches - D-W-L-D-L-D

Cordoba is not ready to participate among the best clubs in the country and maybe they will get relegated really quick back to Segunda, while in the same time Villarreal will again be fighting for the top places and a position at least in the Europa League next season. Cordoba was one of the really nice surprises in Segunda last season, as no one expected them to be among the clubs that will be fighting for the promotion, so what to talk about the fact that they had managed to win the playoffs, beating the favorite Las Palmas and getting a place in the Primera Division for this season, which was without any question a huge success for the club. But in the summer they did not had the needed money to invest in good players and to be on a good level for the new season, as the difference between Segunda and Primera is huge and you just cannot compete with the same players you played with a season ago in the lower league. And the results proves that the class of the club and the players does not look good enough to be participating in the top flight in Spain, as Cordoba remains the only club who is yet to win a single match in the league after the first twelve rounds, having drew a whole seven times so far (0-7-5), but with those just seven points collected, they are at the rock bottom of the table and I cannot see them getting out of this position anytime soon, at least with this display.

Away - Villarreal
Last away matches - D-L-L-W-D-D

Villarreal in the same time quickly came among the leaders in Spain after their promotion from Segunda two years ago and the club have a lot to show, as during the recent years they had managed to transfer some really good players, as well as even when they relegated from La Liga three years ago, still managed to keep a lot of their best players, so when coming back to La Liga, they did not need to adapt the squad that much. So far the team is doing ok in the league, being at number sixth in the ranks so far, with eighteen points collected (5-3-4), but a whole three of those defeats so far for them came at home, while on the road they had suffered just one single defeat in the six games played (2-3-1) and in Cordoba I expect to see their third victory away from home.

Valencia vs Barcelona

Last away matches - L-W-L-D-W-D

Valencia is around the top of the standings which was quite expected because of the strength of this team, but somehow it seems that are not as good as they used to be at the beginning of the season which is backed up with the results. Heavy defeat by Deportivo could be classified as a bad day, but shortly afterwards they for the first time missed to win at home and drew with Bilbao 0-0, and then in the last round they were defeated in the derby by Levante by 2-1. It is too bad that they hadn’t won that match, because they would be even closer to Barcelona which would additionally motivate them. They shouldn’t allow to receive the second goal just a minute after they equalised the result, which in fact cost them the defeat. The first striker Alcacer didn’t play, which was certainly a major handicap, but Parejo had returned and he even scored a goal after he came off the bench in the second half. Alcacer should be ready now, although it is not certain whether he will start the match or not. Parejo should therefore also be a starter, while the rest of the team should stay the same.

Away - Barcelona
Last away matches - W-W-W-L-W-L

The crisis is a past tense in Barcelona, and this team is now again in a victorious series. They had a brief critical period when they were defeated by Real, which Celta used that and took points from the Nou Camp. They missed many chances in that match and we cannot say that they played poorly, but then they started again to win and are currently in a series of four victories. Two away victories come from the Champions League where they defeated Ajax and Apoel, who were objectively much weaker teams. In La Lige they had barely defeated Almeria at home, but then have overrun Seville in the last round by 5-1.Messi had marked that match with three goals and a new record in La Lige, and then in Cyprus on Tuesday have scored three new ones against Apoel, which made him the top scorer in the history of the Champions League. So, Messi is again in a great shape and when it is so then Barcelona also play well. Suarez is better and better so there is no winter in the attack. It is occasionally squeaking in defence, although are still a team with the least received goals in the league. The great news is that Iniesta has recovered who will join the team in Valencia.

I’m certain that Pellegrini will opt for one striker up front, considering the talent at Munich’s disposal. The two goals they scored at Loftus Road at the weekend ended a run of five without finding the net but you have to go back to the early stages of the season to find the positives. Leicester took eight points from their first five matches including a 5-3 home win over Manchester United and draws at home to Everton (2-2) and Arsenal (1-1). Another former Inter player is the key man for the Foxes. Esteban Cambiasso will be vital if Leicester are to succeed in the battle for the midfield with Liverpool. The signing of the Argentine was a huge coup for Leicester because of his huge reputation, ability , and experience. Cambiasso can help Leicester against Liverpool’s string midfield. The former Inter man has averaged three interceptions per 90 minutes, two clearances per 90 minutes, has completed 76% of his passes, and has not made a single defensive error all season. The heartbeat of a Swansea side that always look to keep possession of the ball is Ki Sung Yeung. The South Korean midfielder is regularly found at the base of the midfield either starting moves forward for the side or recycling play, allowing them to dictate the pace of the game. In a home match against a QPR side who will be energised by their win at the weekend, the midfielder will be looking to take control of the game to stifle any attempt from QPR to get on top of the home side. With an average Pass Accuracy of 91% this season the former Celtic player rarely gives up the ball and it will be his composure on the ball that will put Swansea in the driving seat against their newly promoted challengers.

Away - Queens Park Rangers

The Dutch international got his first goal of the season on Saturday and QPR will be looking for more goals from the midfielder. QPR spent 8 million pounds to secure Fer’s services this summer from relegated Norwich City. Therefore he is a man in the midfield the fans hope can make things happen. The former Feyenoord player has created 26 chances for QPR this season with only 2 of them turning into goals. His creation is there and it is likely against Swansea he will again be creating more opportunities for the R’s and it will be up to them to take those chances. His ability to impose himself on the game will come down to his decisions when he has the ball, as other players in the midfield will look to break up Swansea’s play and win it back. Since Swansea love to hold onto possession of the ball, Fer’s opportunities may be limited, what he decides to do when they eventually do have the ball will be key to any QPR success.

Jedinak has appeared in all but one of Palace’s league games this season and has been consistently considered as one of their best players. The Australian midfielder has scored five goals of his own this season from just 10 attempts at goal. According to Squawka.com, eight of these were on target. He has not been able to make the biggest of contributions in terms of creativity having created just four chances for his team-mates. One of these did result in an assist, however. He has completed 304 passes in the league so far, meaning he has a passing accuracy of 70%. When you look at Jedinak’s effort in defence, his statistics look impressive. On average, he is involved in eight defensive actions a game and so far this season, he has not been responsible for any defensive errors. He has the ability to control the midfield on Tuesday night and Villa will have to be wary of that.

It is fair to say that Weimann has been the best of a bad bunch at Aston Villa this season. He is often the only positive aspect of a team that seems to produce new lines of negativity every week. He has played in all 13 of Villa’s league games this season and his three goals make him just one of three scorers at the club. He has attempted 14 shots at goal and according to Squawka.com, he has managed to get eight of these on target. The Villa forward has managed to create 11 chances for his team-mates and two of these have resulted in assists. He has attempted 271 passes in the league and 77% of these have found their intended target. Weimann has not been so successful in his duels however, winning just 42% of them.

Manchester City

Arsenal vs Southampton

Last away matches - W-L-W-W-L-W

Arsenal FC have been wildly unpredictable this season. Just as it looks like they are in full crisis mode, they string together impressive results. And just as it looks like they are in top form, they disappoint with a limp effort. This teeter-totter play will have the stress levels of thousands of Gunner fans soaring, and one wonders if they won’t suffer another letdown after a strong week. While they did fall to Manchester United for their first PL home defeat in their last 24 matches, they admittedly played rather well in that match and arguably should’ve taken a share of the points. But those woes have been left behind as unlikely hero Yaya Sanogo scored his first competitive goal for Arsenal in their 2:0 Champions League triumph over Borussia Dortmund, and last weekend saw Danny Welbeck get back on track against West Brom as his lone-goal match winner sealed all 3 points for the North Londoners. Now they enter the midweek in 6th place with a chance to further propel themselves up the table. However, they come up against a very good Southampton team that has already eliminated the hosts from the Capital One Cup this season, and while we suspect the tables will be turned here in league action, the going won’t be easy for Arsene Wenger and his men. But it must be noted that in Laurent Koscielny’s first game back from injury, they earned their 4th clean sheet of the season.

Southampton FC have come back down to earth a bit after their flying start to the season, and it’s starting to look as if talk of a potential top 5 finish was rather premature. A limp 1:1 draw with Aston Villa was a bit disappointing considering the Villains were without arguably their top 3 players as well as their top 3 centre-backs. They followed that up last time out with a 0:3 defeat at home to Manchester City. They conceded more goals in that match than they had all season at the St. Mary’s Stadium, and confidence will surely have taken a hit as the players question whether they are legitimate top 5 contenders or not. However, they still sit in 3rd place and are very much a threat to the traditional top clubs. They have already knocked Arsenal out of the Capital One Cup this season behind a blistering rocket of a goal from breakout right-back Nathaniel Clyne. The Englishman should be able to give the Gunners problems down the flank, especially considering both Arsenal left-backs are dealing with knocks and likely won’t be at 100%. Nevertheless, striker Graziano Pelle has cooled off a bit since a patch of torrid form, and considering the fact that they will be facing a revenge-minded Arsenal side, the Saints may not have enough firepower to avoid their second consecutive defeat.

Cesc Fabregas along with Diego Costa has been the best summer signing this season and his partnership with his compatriot has been one of the reasons for Chelsea being at the top of the table. Even though the Brazil-born striker will miss out on Wednesday, the former Arsenal midfielder will be looking to exploit a nervy Tottenham backline as they try to repel wave after wave of Chelsea pressure. Fabregas has is one half of the best central midfield partnerships this season along with Nemanja Matic and has already bagged a league highest 10 assists in only 13 games, well on his way to break Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists in 2002/03. With an 89.4% passing accuracy in the league Fabregas has dominated games with his intelligence and movement, creating 43 chances for his teammates along the way, an average of 3.3 per game. He has completed 989 passes this season and will be looking to playing against Spurs, something that he relished during his time with the Gunners.

The Danish international has netted two goals in his last two Premier League appearances and is finally starting to show signs of the tremendous potential he was touted as having from his Ajax days in the past few weeks. With five goals in the league so far, he is Tottenham’s second highest goal scorer behind Nacer Chadli. The 22-year-old has created 25 chances for his teammates though he is yet to get an assist, while registering a pass accuracy of 83.6% and a shot accuracy of 53%. He was also monumental in his side’s 2-1 win over Everton with his defensive work down the left flank, and would be required to do more of the same against the likes of Fabregas to help out his midfield that will be stretched on Wednesday.

Everton vs Hull City

Home - Everton
Last away matches - L-W-D-W-D-L

Everton are closing the top 10 of the English Premiership table. The Toffees have got 17 points on their account (4 victories, 5 draws, 4 losses). They want to bounce back from the loss to Tottenham at the White Hart Lane last Sunday (2:1). It were the Toffees, who opened the score with 15 minutes on the clock (K. Mirallas) but the Spurs needed only 6 minutes to respond and get the equalizer. In the last action of the added time before the break, Soldado (assist by A. Lennon) made it two for the hosts and this score was also the final one. Everton do also play in the Europa League Group H. After 5 games, the English side is 1st in their group and with 11 points on their account, they have already qualified for the next round. On the last matchday in Europe, Everton won their away game against German VfL Wolfsburg 0:2. Coming back to the English Premiership Everton, have got a slightly positive goal balance 23:21. Taking into account only the home games, the balance is equal at 12:12.

Hull City were also playing on the road on the last matchday in England. The popular Tigers met at Old Trafford with Manchester United. The Red Devils did not make it a pleasant Saturday afternoon for the visitors. Smalling scored in the 16th minute of the match and Rooney made it two for United just before the break. The final score was determined by van Persie then. Hull lost the game 3:0 and it was their 4th defeat in a row. Previously the Tigers lost to Tottenham, Burnley and Southampton. Hull have won only two league games so far – at the very beginning of the season against Queens Park Rangers and in October against Crystal Palace. After four matchdays without any points, the Yorkshire club almost reached the bottom of the league table.

Sunderland vs Manchester City

Home - Sunderland
Last away matches - D-W-L-D-L-W

Sunderland showed signs at the beginning of the season that they could effectively defend as a team conceding 7 goals in 7 matches. This was on show against Chelsea at the weekend as prevented the best team in the league from scoring and obtain a well-earned point. It could be a turning point in Sunderland’s season, but that will swiftly be put to the test with fixtures against Manchester City and Liverpool in the matter of a few days. After drawing plaudits for his performance on Saturday against Chelsea, Cattermole will once again be the defensive battering ram in midfield to shield his defence from Manchester City’s attacking quality. The midfielder was a rock for Sunderland making 7 tackles – just under a third of total tackles made by Sunderland players – 3 interceptions and blocked 2 shots. Alongside this, Cattermole nullified Cesc Fabregas’ influence on the match and a similar performance against City – particularly Yaya Toure who looked like he was returning to form against Southampton – will be needed to help get something out of the game.

Away - Manchester City

Manchester City have enjoyed a good week after winning a vital match in the Champions League against Bayern Munich and in the league against surprise package Southampton. It comes after a poor period that saw them slip further behind Chelsea in the title race and make Champions League progression difficult; now they sit 6 points behind Chelsea in the league and a result away to Roma will see them into the knockout stages. A favourable looking run for the current English champions over the festive period means City could finally hit the performances and form of last season. The Argentine striker is reaching the form that has seen him mentioned amongst the top 3 players and has almost won games on his own recently – last week against Bayern for example. While Aguero didn’t find add to his 17 goals – 12 in the league – at the weekend, his influence was still felt against Southampton. The striker created 4 chances for his team mates with two resulting goals. A conversion rate of 23.5% and a very credible shot accuracy of 63%, Aguero is arguably the striker in the Premier League and given half the chance he can make Sunderland pay.
