History of dominoes?

I am interested to hear from anyone who knows anything about the origins of Dominoes? Where it started and by which culture. I have a feeling it has its roots in China but am not sure. Can anyone help?

The oldest record of dominoes being played was the set found in Tutankhamen's tomb, that is now in the musuem in Cairo. So you can see that it is probably one of the world's oldest board games.

Games similar to dominoes date back to 11th century China.

A modern version of dominoes is known to have been played in 18th century Europe. Modern European dominoes may have developed from the Chinese game.

Early dominoes were traditionally carved from ivory or bone. The design appears to have been modeled after dice, which pre-dated dominoes.

Modern dominoes are made from plastic resin.

Today, dominoes are played all around the world by people of all ages. The game is most popular in Latin America.

Tutankhamen's tomb! That is quite a way back. I wonder if a young Tutankhamen ever stacked the dominoes up in a line and pushed one at the end to make them all fall down?😄

Backs up what Manne said in that the first dominoe set was found around 1120 AD somewhere in China. Certainly has lasted a long time and will probably be around a whole lot longer.

I am starting to believe that China invented most of the skill games we see today? It seems that every game we have has some history originating from the Far East.

I knew about the link to China but didn't realise that a set had been found with Tutankahmen. I think this is one of the oldest games that we have around today and it can be traced back through many generations and cultures.

Dominos is a family thing in my household. We love to play dominos. Sometimes we take it too seriously but it's fun though. Spades as well.

I've seen people playing dominoes during down time where I work.

I'm surprised how physical they get sometimes when they slam the pieces down onto the table when they have a good move.

We like playing Dominoes in my house too. We have never played the Mexican Train, but we love Chicken Foot. It doesn't surprise me that China is the origin point for Dominoes.
