Miami Heat point guard Terry Rozier is under investigation for a match-fixing scandal, the NBA announced Thursday. This comes months after former Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter was banned for life for his involvement in illegal betting schemes.

The league was alerted to suspicious bets related to Rozier in March 2023 when he was playing for the Charlotte Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans. NBA spokesperson Mike Bass confirmed an internal investigation was conducted, but no rule violations were found at the time.

“We are now aware of an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York and are cooperating with their inquiry,” Bass stated.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to comment, and neither the NBA Players Association nor Rozier’s agent has responded to requests for comment.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the probe. Sources indicate an unusually high number of bets were placed on Rozier to underperform. U.S. Integrity, an organization that monitors betting activity, alerted the NBA and sportsbooks about the irregularities.

Rozier, whose career earnings exceed $100 million, left the game early due to right foot soreness after scoring just five points.

This investigation is linked to the ongoing federal probe into match-fixing, which also involves Jontay Porter.

Porter previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, admitting he deliberately exited two games to help bettors win large wagers. "I know what I did was wrong, unlawful, and I deeply regret it," he stated in court.

Porter has yet to be sentenced but faces three to four years in prison, along with fines and potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in restitution.
