Sevilla have sacked manager Vincenzo Montella after just four months in charge following their 2-1 defeat to Levante on Friday evening.

The Italian has been replaced until the end of the season by Joaquin Caparros, who previously coached Sevilla between 2000 and 2005.

The loss at Levante was Sevilla's ninth game without a win, leaving Montella's side seventh in La Liga and hanging on to a qualification place for next season's Europa League.

A Sevilla statement read: "Sevilla have dismissed Vincenzo Montella after the side's bad run of results.

Montella led Sevilla to a memorable win over Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Champions League last-16

"After a call from club chairman José Castro, (Caparros) did not hesitate in accepting control of the first-team squad, as the team pushes to achieve European football in the season's four remaining games."

Montella joined Sevilla in December, just one month after being sacked by Serie A side AC Milan.

In his short spell at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, Montella led Sevilla to a memorable win over Manchester United in the Champions League to take his side into the quarter-finals.

He also took Sevilla to the Copa del Rey final - although they were then thrashed 5-0 by Barcelona.

In total, Montella took charge of 28 matches as Sevilla manager, winning 11, losing 10 and drawing seven.

Only Real Madrid (60.6%) and Barcelona (63.6%) have posted better average possession figures in La Liga this season than Betis (57.4%).

Betis hasn't lost lost 7 games in a row. Betis is just a better team and they need to take points against such opponents because they are in the 5th place which let to play in the Europa league next season. It is worth to take Betis -1.5

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos says they will not give Barcelona a guard of honour in El Clasico at the Nou Camp on Sunday.

Barcelona were crowned La Liga champions after they beat Deportivo La Coruna and can go the league season unbeaten if they avoid defeat in their final four games.

The Catalan's next league match is at home to Real Madrid, live on Sky Sports, and full-back Jordi Alba has suggested they should be given a guard of honour by their rivals prior to kick-off.

But Ramos has rejected the idea with Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane instructing his side not to respect Barcelona's league triumph.

The defender said ahead of their Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern Munich: "What Zidane says is gospel. We're making too much fuss out of all this.

"Barca have the title, which is what they wanted, but there will be no guard of honour full stop.

Atl. Madrid won against Arsenal and they are going to play in the Europa league final. However, they are in the second place of this league which would let to play in the Champions league next season and they wouldn't need to worry about... Espanyol is safe from the relegation zone. I think Atl Madrid should win this match confidently

Zinedine Zidane has quit as Real Madrid manager just days after becoming the first coach to win the Champions League in three consecutive seasons.

Zidane, 45, replaced Rafael Benitez in January 2016 and despite his European success has come under pressure for winning only one La Liga title during his two and a half years in charge.

In January this year, Zidane confirmed he signed a contract extension at Real to keep him at the club until 2020 but said "it does not mean anything".

A month later, Zidane said: "Being a coach is extremely tiring - more so at a club like Real Madrid, When I feel there is nothing more to give, I'll walk away".

Gareth Bale, who scored twice in Real's 3-1 win over Liverpool in Saturday' Champions League final, and Cristiano Ronaldo have both cast doubts on their future at the Bernabeu since lifting the trophy.

Real Madrid want Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino as their new head coach following Zinedine Zidane’s decision to leave, Sky sources understand.

Real have not spoken to Pochettino and Tottenham sources have told Sky Sports News that no buyout clause exists in Pochettino's new five-year contract, which he signed only last week.

Those sources also deny there is a verbal agreement for Pochettino to be granted permission to discuss a La Liga move.

Spain coach Julen Lopetegui will take over as Real Madrid boss after the World Cup.

The 51-year-old, who has been in charge of the national team for the past two years, has agreed a three-year contract at the Bernabeu.

The move comes as a surprise, with Lopetegui not featuring prominently among the host of managers linked with the role since the departure of Zinedine Zidane days after Madrid's 3-1 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League final.

What do you think about this choice?
