So in today first semifinal match we will see two great guy’s with great serves, first one is Marin Čilič from Croatia No.6 racket, second player is from USA Sam Querrey 28th in ATP rankings. Both players already met four times, but all times Croatian was better, they even met in Wimbledon two times. In 2009 Marin won 3-2, and same for 2012 Marin won again 3-2 in set’s. So what we will see today?
Marin Čilič – 28 years old, 195cm and 79kg of pure strength and power. Why he is so successful on tennis ? Answer is simple, he is big, strong, but still very fast and have great intelligence of tennis, of course he is not no.1, but he is working to get there, always trying to do his best, its hard to get there because of great players like Andy Murray, Novak Djokovič of course other semifinalist Roger Federer. Grass statistics is very good for croatian 69/25, and its keep getting better, this year 11/2 only two looses, he fought in Queens final, sadly for him he lost in good fight.
Sam Querrey – 29 years old, 198cm and 90kg of American, very good numbers for power play. Sam is a little bit different player than Marin. American plays very powerful tennis, he trust his serve if serve is gone, all Sam strategy is gone too, that’s a biggest problem for him, he isn’t so fast like Marin, he is much more heavier and slower, he don’t have such good coaches and maybe talents to be the best, but he have power of will and he tries his best of course. Sam great American server like John Isner, that always was great thing for USA players, to serve good and win the point. Sam on grass have 57/35 statistic and this year 7/2 thanks to Wimbledon matches. Last year he was very good on grass here, this year he repeated good run so its not accident, he is good.
Comparing the players : Let’s compare a serves Marin average serves first serve 119 mph, second serve goes 98mph its very good, but not all his serve is very hard to return, very low serve make’s a lot of problems for tall players, with Muller he made 33 aces. Sam Querrey do have a little bit better serve first serve in is 124mph and second 97, he is better server, but his serve is in game is his main factor to win. Both players have a great serve and makes a lot of aces. Who is faster? We say its Marin, he have very good running shape, of course he knows when to run, when to pass it, a fast forehand helps him a lot. Sam runs a lot in this tournament, he ran a lot more than Čilič, so if we compare how much strenght both players still have, we can easily say Marin still have a lot of strenghts here. Strategy ? What we could say, Marin is better here too, one thing to prove it is titles and ranking and of course statistic on grass, Čilič wins a lot more and more easy than Sam.
What to expect today : Croatian already played versus player like Sam, it was few rounds ago versus Steve Johnson, and he won in three set‘s, so for today we expect same result or very similar like 3-1, because Sam wont give it easily that for sure. Both players had a good road to Semifinal, ofcourse three last matches for american was very hard, Marin had only one toughter match versus Gilles Muller.
