UEFA CL: Dortmund vs Tottenham Hotspur Betting Preview

Borussia Dortmund will seek to overcome a 0-3 aggregate deficit as they host Tottenham Hotspur in the 2nd leg of Round of 16 in the Champions League.

Both teams are currently showing some poor form. Starting with Dortmund, ever since the start of February they’ve completely plummeted in form, they have won 1 total game from their 7 played in all competitions, they fully have surrendered their lead at Bundesliga’s top table, they’ve been knocked out of the German Cup and are facing a 0-3 deficit to Spurs after losing 3-0 at Wembley 3 weeks ago.

Tottenham have also been horrendous lately. Since their 3-0 win against Dortmund, Spurs have gone 3 games without a win and have fallen out of their domestic league (BPL) title race. Spurs lost 2-1 to Burnley, 2-0 to Chelsea and drew 1-1 with Arsenal. Despite Harry Kane returning, they’ve not been able to maintain their good form since the Dortmund win.

Dortmund have especially been awful defensively in their past month, they’ve conceded 14 goals in that 7 games (2 per game) and if they defend like that against Spurs, then let’s be honest they’re done, Dortmund pretty much need a clean sheet to have any shot of coming back.

Dortmund have been dominant at home which is one thing that favours them in this 2nd leg. One thing about Dortmund is they are a very explosive attack going team when they’re at home, they’ve been scoring goals for fun all season long in front of their own fans so if they were to get it going there may still be some slim hope that they can overturn this tie.

Tottenham have been a good away side overall this season, but they have lost 4 consecutive on their travels in all competitions which definitely doesn’t help the cause. In Europe, Spurs have struggled away from home picking up just 2 of 9 away pts this season in UCL. Regardless of the away form, they should definitely hold on to this 3-0 lead even if they were to lose the game.

If Dortmund were to erase this deficit, they will need Jadon Sancho, Paco Alcacer and Marco Reus all to be on their game. They need 3 goals at minimum and with the way this trio can get going they can be completely unstoppable at times. Prime example 4-0 win against Atletico, a game that Dortmund should look back to give them belief that they can get the come back done.

For Tottenham it’s pretty obvious, the key players will be whoever start at the back, the target is to protect the lead first. Going forward, Harry Kane is the man as always he’s the only one who has scored Tottenham’s goals (2) since he returned in the 3 games. If Spurs can get a goal then the tie will be pretty much all but done for sure.

Spurs have defeated Dortmund in 3 consecutive Champions League games, they met last season and 1 time this season. Tottenham did beat Dortmund away from home 1-2 last season after conceding first so in terms of recent H2H it’s all Tottenham.

Every team that has won 3-0 in the first leg have advanced in the next round in Champions League history, so if history were to repeat itself, Tottenham would advance into their 2nd ever Quarter Final, first since 2011.

Dortmund are the favourites to win the game in 90 mins offered at 2.06 while Spurs are tipped to win at 3.70 with Draw priced at 3.75. Tottenham are clear and by far favourites to advance at 1.05 while Dortmund are very, very unlikely to advance at 10.00. Odds based on Unibet.
