La Liga: Getafe vs Real Madrid Betting Preview

Getafe’s push for a top 4 finish continues as they take on Real Madrid at home in a very crucial match for the hosts.

Currently looking at the table, the game is far more important for the hosts considering they’re battling for top 4 and are currently 4th, but with Sevilla and Valencia right under them by 1-2 points, Getafe must continue to win games if they want to hold on to 4th. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are 3rd, but are playing for nothing at this point as they’re not in the title race nor in danger of finishing below 3rd, however don’t expect the visitors to lay down as they will definitely look to finish the season strong to have something positive heading into the next year.

Getafe are entering this game on some very good form having lost just once in their last 12 La Liga games (6W 5D), the hosts should be feeling confident about their chances here as they take on one of the best teams in the league. Getafe are coming off a very impressive 3-0 win against Sevilla which moved them back into the Top 4 at the weekend therefore the momentum is one their side for sure entering this game.

Real Madrid themselves have been pretty good under Zidane since his return here. With a 4W 1D 1L record since the re-appointment of Zidane, Real have been able to steady the ship a little after a horror run of results in late February/Early March and despite these games being meaningless, they have stayed professional and have been on job. Real Madrid arguably had their best performance in quite some time at the weekend when they beat down a good Bilbao side 3-0.

Getafe have played exceptional football at home this season having won 10 of their 16 games in front of their fans making it one of the toughest places to come for opponents to win at (1D 5L) and they have been extremely good defensively here having conceded just 11 goals at home which is tied 2nd best defensive record at home in La Liga. Getafe have won 8 of their last 10 league games at home producing some sensational form in front of their fans for months now.

Real Madrid have been pretty decent away from home this season with the tied 2nd best away record in La Liga (8W 3D 5L) although they have had some very poor results on their travels from time to time due to their inconsistency all season long. In 12 games in 2019, Madrid have only tasted 2 defeats and won 7 games (3D) on their travels in all competitions though they have failed to win each of their 2 away games under Zidane losing 2-1 to Valencia and drawing 1-1 with Leganes. Their home form has definitely been better as of late.

The players to watch for Getafe will be a duo of Jaime Mata and Jorge Molina. Both players have been great with Mata contributing for 20 goals (14G 6A) and Molina contributing for 17 goals (13G 4A) and they’re both coming off good performance against Sevilla where Molina bagged a brace and Mata scored the other goal. Expect these two to cause problems for the defending European champions.

For Real Madrid, there’s only one man and that’s Karim Benzema as he has 26 goal contributions having scored 21 goals and delivering 5 assists in La Liga. He’s been by far their best and most consistent player all season and is currently probably playing his best football having scored in each of his last 5 apps scoring 8 goals (all of Real Madrid’s last 8 goals) and is coming off a hattrick against Bilbao. Benzema is playing about as well as anyone in the world at the moment.

Looking at H2H, Real Madrid have clearly owned Getafe in recent years beating them in 10 consecutive match ups and winning away at Getafe 4 consecutive times scoring 13 goals in their last 4 visits here. Real Madrid won the reverse fixture 2-0 at the Bernabeu this season as well. It’s not been a fixture that Getafe have enjoyed in recent years, but this is probably the best chance they’ve got to snap this losing streak to Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are bookies favourites to win this game at 1.95 with Getafe being the underdogs at 3.90 and Draw is offered at 3.60. Odds are based on Unibet.

Team News

Getafe: Amath Ndiaye, Vitorino Antunes and Dimitri Foulquier are all out for the hosts.

Real Madrid: Sergio Ramos and Odriozola will both likely be out while Courtois, Diaz and Vinicius have returned to training and could all feature which is a nice boost for the visitors.
