EPL: Wolves vs Manchester United Betting Preview

Man Utd’s chase for top four continues as they travel to face a tough Wolves side away from home.

Both teams still got tons to play for as Wolves are currently playing for a spot in Europa League next season as they currently sit 7th tied with Leicester on points, meanwhile Man Utd are in a 4 team top 4 race between 3-6 places and are currently tied with Tottenham on points in the 5th place and could move into 3rd with a win, 4th with a draw.

Wolves have been playing great football recently with only 2 defeats in their previous 13 games, however they did come out of international break with a 2-0 loss to Burnley which they will seek to bounce back from.

Man Utd have been a little unconvincing lately as their honeymoon period under Ole is pretty much over and in their last 3 games they lost 2 and they scraped out a 2-1 win against Watford in the other game at home which was this weekend which should do them some good with confidence. United overall have been great under Ole, just had a mini dip in form which shouldn’t be a cause for concern yet.

Wolves have been exceptional at home in 2019. They have a 6W 1D 1L record at the Mollineux since the calendar year changed and are currently unbeaten in 7 straight beating the likes of Liverpool and their opponents this midweek Man Utd during this stretch (both in the cup). Wolves weren’t great at home early in the season, but now they have been making the place a very, very tough place to win at for opponents.

Man Utd’s form under Solskjaer away from home is exceptional (9W 0D 2L). However after winning each of their first 9 away games under their manager, they have dropped each of their last two which further proves that they may be coming out of the honeymoon period and there’s more cracks in the team than there was about a month or two ago.

Wolves have been fantastic this season against big 6 sides. They’ve beaten and drawn with Chelsea, drawn with Arsenal, beat Spurs (also lost to them), lost to City and drew with City, lost and beat Liverpool and against Man Utd they won and drew. Wolves record against the big 6 in league and cups combined is 4W 4D 3L which is quite a great record considering they’re outside of the big 6 and it proves that Wolves have been causing big teams a lot of problems and are expected to do so again here.

Raul Jimenez is the man to watch for Wolves. He’s scored 12 goals in the Premier League this season and has scored 4 in his last 5 apps including scoring against Man Utd and Chelsea. Jimenez has been solid overall and has delivered in multiple big games already this season so United will have to be vary of him scoring in this game.

Pogba and Rashford are the players to watch for Man Utd. Pogba’s had a dip in form lately going on a bit of a drought but overall he’s been ridiculously good under Solskjaer, just like Rashford who seems to be back on track having scored 3 in his last 4 apps after going through a 5 game goal drought. This duo has been a nightmare to defend for teams in the past few months and expect them to turn it up against Wolves.

Man Utd and Wolves faced each other twice this season and Wolves have gotten the best of United as mentioned. In the league at Old Trafford, Wolves salvaged a 1-1 draw meanwhile 2 ½ weeks ago Wolves defeated Man Utd 2-1 at Mollineux in the FA Cup.

Wolves have been able to cause Man Utd problems at the Mollineux in recent meetings beating them twice in the last 3 H2H meetings in this stadium and 3 times in last 6 meetings here.

Man Utd are offered as bookies favourites to win this game at 2.07 while Wolves are 4.00 with the draw offered at 3.45. It’s a game where United are expected to win, but Wolves could very well pull off a surprise so don’t underestimate them. Odds based on Unibet.

Team News

Wolves: Wolves are a pretty healthy squad and Ryan Bennett is also back from suspension. Be wary of potential rotation though as Wolves have a massive FA Cup tie this weekend which they may prioritise.

Manchester United: Alexis Sanchez, Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly and Matteo Darmian are all out while Lukaku and Lindelof are available. Martial picked up a knock during the weekends game but will be available to play.
