EPL: Everton vs Manchester United Betting Preview

Everton host Manchester United in an important match in the Premier League as the visitors continue to push for a top 4 finish.

Currently looking at the table, this game is important for both sides. Everton are still hoping to reach Europa League football which is by no means out of hand yet as they’re just 3 points off 7th placed Watford, however every game is a must win from now for them. Meanwhile Man Utd are 6th right now and are in a 4 team battle with Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea for top 4. United are only 3 pts off Spurs and just 2 off Arsenal and Chelsea so they’re right there, however they need to win every game at this point too as there’s only 5 left.

Looking at form, the hosts have been slightly better in recent weeks. Everton have won 3 of their last 4 games although they did surprisingly lose 2-0 to Fulham last week, Everton still beat Chelsea Arsenal and West Ham prior to that game so it’d be harsh to say that one loss to Fulham means that Everton are playing bad, although it could affect them negatively so it’s important to bounce back immediately.

Man Utd have been in some awful form. Ever since the famous 1-3 win at PSG, United have gone on to lose 5 of their next 7 games with the two wins being very unconvincing against Watford and West Ham in games where they thoroughly got outplayed. United are coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss to Barcelona which knocked them out of Europe during the midweek so it has been a little disappointing watching United play ever since that honeymoon period under Ole when everything clicked.

Everton have been decent at Goodison Park as usual this year. 7th best home record after all the big 6 teams with 8W 4D 5L although Everton have had some inconsistent form at home throughout the season, they have seemingly been playing their best football at Goodison Park right now as in their last 3 games here they held Liverpool to a 0-0 draw, beat Chelsea 2-0 and beat Arsenal 1-0. Three big 6 sides came, neither won or scored and Everton picked 7 points up against them which is incredibly impressive and they’ll look to snatch more from another big boy as United come here. Goodison has always been a tough place to play against Everton at even for the big boys so expect Everton to make it tough on the visitors here.

Man Utd have been in horrendous away form recently. On the season overall, they’ve been good away with 9 wins from 17 (2D 6L) in the league which is 4th best, however they have lost all of their last 4 away games after winning 9 straight in all competitions to begin Solskjaer’s reign. United lost 2-0 to Arsenal, 2-1 to Wolves twice and 3-0 to Barcelona so defensively it’s been an issue for them on their travels in this recent bad run which they have to sure up against this dangerous Everton side.

Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson are players to watch for Everton. Neither really stand out this year from one another as they have both consistently performed well scoring 12 goals each which is over half of clubs total league goals.

For Man Utd you’d have to say Pogba is still the man to watch. Most goal contributions in the league with 22 (13G 9A) although his recent form has been poor, he still is their most productive player this year and on his day he’s unstoppable. Pogba scored a brace last week against West Ham which may get him going again. Romelu Lukaku is another player to watch as he is coming back to face his former club and will be eager to get a goal. Lukaku has 12 goals in the league this year.

The reverse fixture was a 2-1 Manchester United win at Old Trafford. United had a 2-0 lead, but Everton did score late to make it a nervy few minutes in the end, however United held on for the 3 points.

Man Utd have had great success in Goodison in recent years going unbeaten in 4 straight winning 3 of those games and scoring 8 goals in these 4 visits (2 per game). United won in their most recent visit 0-2 here last season. Not many teams have had much success in Goodison, but United have been a rare team to perform well here against Everton recently.

The bookies have the odds relatively even for this match although United are tipped as a favourites to win at 2.33 whereas Everton to win is a respectable 3.25 with Draw offered at 3.50. Despite United being the better team, being works to Everton’s advantage especially given how well they’ve done against the top sides lately here and recent lack of form makes the visitors vulnerable here especially coming off a trip in Barcelona during the midweek. Don’t be surprised if the Toffees grab points here. It’ll take a lot of hard work for Man Utd if they want this important win. The odds are based on Unibet.
