EPL: Everton vs Liverpool Betting Preview

We have a massive Merseyside derby on this Super Sunday as Everton will seek to put a dent in their rivals Liverpool’s title hopes at Goodison Park!

The home team Everton have had quite a disappointing season. After splashing a lot of money again this season, they have yet again failed to live up to expectations sitting 10th in the league and are very unlikely to even make it to the Europa League spots as they’re 7 points off 7th.

Liverpool meanwhile have had a good season, they fell off the top of the league after City’s win against Bournemouth, but could return right back to the top with a win at Goodison Park. Liverpool are currently 2nd on 69 points and are 2 points off City with a game in hand which is the one against Everton.

Everton’s current run of form has been quite horrendous, especially defensively an aspect that they’ve struggled on a lot lately. They’ve lost 3 of their last 4 games but they are actually coming off a good win against Cardiff away where they picked up a dominant 0-3 win, but despite that win it’ll take more for Everton to convince everyone that they’re fully back on track than just one win against a relegation threatened side.

Liverpool themselves haven’t had quite as good a run of form lately, but have been more impressive than Everton at least. Liverpool have drawn 3 of their last 5 Premier League games which has now moved off the top spot on the league, however they did send a message during the midweek with an impressive 5-0 win against a good Watford side at Anfield. That was a very needed win for Liverpool who went scoreless in the 2 games prior.

This season, Everton have been unusually poor at Goodison Park with only 6 wins from 14. Everton have especially struggled at home lately winning just 1 of last 7 games at home losing FOUR of them and they’ve manage to concede 16 goals in these games in front of their own fans. Safe to say Goodison isn’t quite a fortress anymore for them.

Liverpool are a good away side, but they haven’t had much success in their recent travels winning just 1 league game from 4 in the Premier League in 2019, 1 of 5 if you want to add the defeat to Wolves in the FA Cup. Liverpool’s lone win came at Brighton 0-1 while they lost to Man City and had back to back away draws at West Ham 1-1 and Man Utd 0-0. Retrieving good away form will be necessary for Liverpool if they want to close the title race on top.

Sigurdsson and Richarlison are the players to watch from Everton. If there was one positive is the play of these two as they’ve combined for more than half of Everton’s total goals (21/39) with Sigurdsson bagging 11 and Richarlison 10 this season. Sigurdsson had 2 goals midweek against Cardiff so he’ll definitely be on high confidence right now.

Mane and Salah are the duo to watch from Liverpool. Mane right now is probably playing the best for Liverpool as he’s scored 6 in last 7 goals including a brace against Watford in their most recent game. Salah is still the top scorer and the star man however.

Liverpool won a very tough reverse fixture back at Anfield 1-0. Some would say lucky but Liverpool definitely would take a repeat win like that. Divock Origi scored a 96th minute winner after Pickford made a crucial mistake to cost Everton a point in that meeting.

Liverpool are currently unbeaten in 18 consecutive games against Everton.

The games at Goodison tend to be very even in the recent years, 5 of last 6 meetings at Goodison resulted with draws between these sides with the only other being a Liverpool win thanks to a 94th min winner by Mane in 2016. The last meeting at Goodison ended 0-0 last season.

Liverpool are tipped as clear bookies favourites to win this Sunday at 1.62 while Everton are offered to win at a high 6.00 while Draw is 4.15. Odds based on Unibet.

Team News

Everton: Leighton Baines is the only absentee for the home side with everybody else available for Marco Silva.

Liverpool: Dejan Lovren is out for Liverpool still, Roberto Firmino picked up a knock against Watford and will be hopeful he can play, for now he’s questionable.
