EPL: Chelsea vs Tottenham Betting Preview

Chelsea face Tottenham in a crucial game for both sides as Chelsea seek to make a push for top 4 while Tottenham are seeking to stay in the title race.

Chelsea haven’t had quite a good 2019, in fact pretty horrible so far, but they are coming into this game after an impressive performance against Man City on Sunday who they took to penalties and really deserved to get more out of it. Question is after playing 120 minutes just 3 days ago, will the Blues have enough to see off another big game against Tottenham?

Tottenham meanwhile have been playing great football, they went on a 4 game win run scoring goals, however they are coming off a very frustrating 2-1 loss to Burnley despite Harry Kane returning and bagging a goal and instead of cutting the gap to the top to 3 points they remain further away 6 points behind Liverpool.

Chelsea are still very well within striking distance to get top 4, in fact they’re 3 points off with a game in hand which is Brighton at home later this season so if the Blues were to build off their last performance against Man City, they could definitely make a solid push towards the end of the season and could very well get top 4.

Meanwhile for Tottenham, this is a crucial period coming up playing against Chelsea and then Arsenal right after which could very well decide whether they remain in the title race or will they have to start to have to look behind and re-involve themselves into the top 4 battle with Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd.

Chelsea have struggled in big games in 2019, they’ve taken defeats to Arsenal, Man Utd, Spurs themselves, Man City once while also drawing them the other time after 90 mins. Chelsea did beat Spurs though so, so far in 2019 the Blues have a 1W 1D 4L record against the big 6 which is definitely not something that goes well with the club.

Spurs have done a little better in 2019 when it comes to big games, they beat Chelsea and lost against Chelsea, lost against Man Utd but have battered Dortmund 3-0 in Europe.

Chelsea have been strong at Stamford Bridge this season only losing 1 from 13 league games at Stamford Bridge, otherwise they’ve been invincible although they have had a few sloppy draws but overall 8W 4D 1L record isn’t too bad. They’ve shown up in big league games beating Arsenal, Man City and picking up a point against Man Utd and Liverpool.

Spurs have the best away record in the Premier League, but lately they’ve been slacking away from home losing 3 straight in all competitions although 2 of those were cup ties and they were very depleted with injuries. Spurs away record is 11W 0D 3L. Spurs are by the way the only Premier League side to not draw a game this season from 27 played total.

These sides have met 3 times already this season, Spurs have had the edge over Chelsea in the league winning 3-1, but in the cup Chelsea as mentioned already knocked Spurs out beating them on Pens in EFL Cup, over two legs the teams split wins with Spurs winning 1-0 at Wembley and Chelsea winning 2-1 at Stamford Bridge which led to pens.

Chelsea have a history of dominating Tottenham at Stamford Bridge, they did recently lose their 28 year unbeaten run to them at home when they lost to them last season 1-3, but that still is an extraordinary stat losing once to Spurs at home in what now is 29 years.

Eden Hazard and Harry Kane are the obvious players to watch from these sides. Eden being Chelsea’s top scorer and playmaker with 12G 10A this season. Kane being Tottenham’s top scorer for multiple years now and with him being back they’ll be hoping their star man delivers assuming he does start, Son Heung Min is another player to watch from Spurs as he’s played unreal all season long.

Chelsea are the bookies favourites to win this game offered at 2.28. Spurs are the underdogs at 3.40 while Draw is the least expected to happen at 3.45. Odds based on Unibet.

Team News

Chelsea: There are no injury concerns at Chelsea, however Kepa Arrizabalaga could get benched after the incident on Sunday and we may see Willy Caballero potentially start in goal. Sarri will likely keep his team the same to Sunday including keeping the out of form Alonso dropped. Loftus-Cheek and Hudson-Odoi have been performing well and will be pushing for starts though.

Tottenham: Dele Alli and Eric Dier are both out otherwise Pochettino has everyone available including Kane who returned on Saturday. Kane will probably start again although watch out for potential rest considering he just returned and Spurs have another big game just a few days after against Arsenal.
