Euroleague: Quarter Finals Game 1 – 16th April 2019 Preview

The Euroleague Playoffs begin and we have the first two game 1s to be played as CSKA host Baskonia and Fenerbache host Zalgiris Kaunas! Here’s some betting stats for the games.

CSKA Moscow vs Baskonia

2 vs 7 match up as one of the favourites to win the whole Euroleague this season CSKA Moscow take on a solid Baskonia team who will seek to pull off an Upset and head to the Final Four themselves

Totals

CSKA Moscow have covered 46.7% of their total point overs at home in the Euroleague this season (7-8) and have finished with 3 consecutive home unders in the Regular Season. The total for this game is 164.5 points which is a total that CSKA haven’t had at home before but they’ve had a very close 164 point total once against Buducnost which resulted with an Over in a 99-69 win for CSKA.

Baskonia have covered 53.3% of their total point overs on the road in the Euroleague this season (8-7), but they’ve also been on a streak of Unders lately finishing the Regular Season with 4 consecutive Unders on the road. Baskonia have not had a 164.5 point total on the road this season either, but the closest that they’ve had to that was a 165.5 point total against Efes which ended with an Over in a 96-85 loss and a 163.5 point total against Maccabi which was an Under in a 79-81 win for Baskonia.

Handicaps

CSKA have been the worst Handicap covering team at home in the Euroleague this season at just 26.7% (4-1-10) and have failed to cover each of their last 4 home Handicaps. CSKA are 8 point favourites for this game and they have not had a -8 Handicap at home this season, however they did have a very close -8.5 Handicap at home twice against Olympiakos which they failed to cover despite a win (69-65) and against Efes which they did cover in a 102-84 win.

Baskonia have covered 46.7% of their Handicaps on the Road in the Euroleague this season (7-1-7) although after a slow start they have covered 7 of their last 10 and each of their last 2 Handicaps on the Road. Baskonia have not had a +8 Handicap on the road this season, but they have had a very close +8.5 Handicap twice against Fenerbache which they failed to cover in a 96-87 loss and against Panathinaikos which they managed to cover despite a loss (72-70).

Recent H2H in Moscow

CSKA have straight up dominated Baskonia at home over the years defeating them a ridiculous 15 straight times, yes FIFTEEN and that definitely does not cope well with Baskonia considering they need at least one win in Moscow to win the series.

The most recent meeting happened this season of course and that actually was in the last day of the Regular Season a couple of weeks ago and CSKA won the match up 82-78 as they erased an 11 point 4th quarter deficit. In that match up Baskonia did end up covering their +6 Handicap while the given 169.5 point total resulted with an Under as the teams totalled 160 points.

Injury Report

CSKA Moscow: Mikhail Kulagin is the only player out for the hosts.

Baskonia: Matt Janning remains out while Jayson Granger is questionable although may be unlikely to go.

Fenerbache vs Zalgiris Kaunas

The 1 vs 8 match up and the revenge of the Final Four match up from last year as the perfect at home (15-0) and 1st seeded Fenerbache take on the surprise underdog who have yet again defied the odds and made the Playoffs finishing the season on a 6 game win streak to sneak into the 8th spot Zalgiris Kaunas!

Totals

Fenerbache have covered 53.3% of their total point overs at home in the Euroleague this season (8-7), however after starting with 5 consecutive overs, Fenerbache have had 7 unders in their last 10 home games. The total for this game is 150 points which is a total they’ve not had this season at home, but the closest that they’ve had to that was a 151.5 point total against Olympiakos which ended with an Over in a 90-75 win for Fenerbache.

Zalgiris have covered 40% of their total point overs on the road this season in the Euroleague (6-9) and have had 8 Unders in their last 10 road games. Zalgiris have had a 150 point total once on the road against Olympiakos this season which resulted with an Under as Zalgiris won 68-72.

Handicaps

Fenerbache have covered 53.3% of their Handicaps at home in the Euroleague this season (8-7) although they finished the season failing to cover each of their last 3 home Handicaps. Fenerbache are given a -8.5 Handicap for this game which is a Handicap that they’ve had twice at home this season against Baskonia and Panathinaikos which they covered both in 96-87 and 85-66 wins.

Zalgiris have covered 60% of their Handicaps on the Road this season which is the 2nd highest percentage in the Euroleague this season (9-6) and they finished the season on a hot streak on the Road covering each of their last 5 Handicaps away from home. Zalgiris have not had a +8.5 Handicap on the road this season, but the closest that they’ve had to that was a +8 Handicap ironically against their Playoff opponent Fenerbache and they failed to cover it in a 78-61 loss.

Recent H2H in Istanbul

Since 2016, these teams met 3 times in Istanbul and Fenerbache have won 2 of the 3 meetings with Zalgiris pulling off one surprise win here last season.

Most recent meeting happened this season however and Fenerbache comfortably defeated Zalgiris at home in the Regular Season 78-61 in a game where Fenerbache covered a -8 Handicap and total 153.5 points ended with an Under as the teams totalled just 139 points in that meeting.

Injury Report

Fenerbache: Tyler Ennis and Joffrey Lauvergne continue to be out meanwhile everyone else are available for the hosts.

Zalgiris Kaunas: Captain Paulius Jankunas is Questionable for Game 1, however Zalgiris finished the season with him being out playing great basketball regardless. Laurynas Birutis is also OUT but he’s not had a big role this season so it’s not a big loss plus he’s been out for weeks already.
