Euroleague: Quarter Finals Game 1 – 17th April 2019 Preview

The Euroleague Playoffs continue and we have the other two Game 1s to be played as Anadolu Efes host Barcelona and Real Madrid host Panathinaikos! Here’s some betting stats for the two games.

Anadolu Efes vs Barcelona

The 4 v 5 match up this year as expected is very evenly matched and probably the most evenly matched up series of any Quarter Final. Efes have had a great season and will look to protect home court in Game 1 as they take on Barcelona who are back in the Playoffs after missing it last year.

Totals

Efes have covered 53.3% of their total point overs at home in the Euroleague this season (8-7), but did finish on a hot streak of an Under as they had 5 Under games from their final 7 before the Playoffs. The total for this game is 158.5 points and that’s a total that Efes haven’t had this season at home, however they’ve had a very close 158 point total twice against Zalgiris and Olympiakos. They had an Over against Zalgiris in a 79-93 loss, but then an Under against Olympiakos in a 75-65 win.

Barcelona have also covered 53.3% of their total point overs on the road this season (8-7). Barcelona have had a 158.5 point total on the road this season once against Khimki and it ended with an Over as Barca won 80-87. Furthermore, they had a couple of 158 point totals too against Zalgiris and Bayern getting an Over against Zalgiris in a 85-88 win and an Under against Bayern in a 73-71 loss.

Handicaps

Efes have been the best team in the Euroleague at covering Handicaps at home at an unbelievable 93.3% (14-1) and actually the only time they failed to cover one was their opening home game against Zalgiris so Efes have covered 14 consecutive Handicaps at home in the Euroleague entering the Playoffs. Efes are 3.5 point favourites for this game which is a Handicap that they’ve had once this season and covered it against Baskonia in a 96-85 win.

Barcelona have only covered 46.7% of their Handicaps on the road in the Euroleague this season (7-8). Barca have had a +3.5 Handicap twice on the road this season against Zalgiris which they covered in a 85-88 win and against Maccabi which they failed to cover losing the game 99-83.

Recent H2H in Istanbul

Over the last 3 years these teams met 3 times in Istanbul and Efes protected home court 2 of those 3 times.

The most recent meeting happened this season and Efes comfortably beat Barcelona 92-70 in the Regular Season. Efes covered a -3 Handicap and total 155.5 points ended with an Over as the teams totalled 162 points.

Injury Report

Anadolu Efes: Metecan Birsen and Brock Motum are both uncertain to play, everyone else are available for the hosts.

Real Madrid vs Panathinaikos

The defending champions Real Madrid will look to begin what they hope will be a repeat Playoff run of last year as they take on a dangerous Panathinaikos team in Game 1 at home.

Totals

Real Madrid have covered 66.7% of their total point overs at home in the Euroleague this season (10-5) which is tied best in the competition and they are on a hot streak of Overs as each of their last 7 home games have had an Over. The total for this game is 163.5 points which is a total that Madrid have not had at home before, but they have had a close 163 point total twice this season against Darussafaka and Zalgiris and both ended with Overs as they beat Darussafaka 109-93 and lost to Zalgiris 86-93.

Meanwhile, Panathinaikos are the tied worst road team at covering total point overs this season at just 33.3% (5-1-9). Panathinaikos have not had a 163.5 point total on the road either this season, but the closest that they’ve had to that was a 162 point total against Gran Canaria and it ended with a rare Over as Panathinaikos won 80-99.

Handicaps

Real Madrid have covered 66.7% of their Handicaps at home in the Euroleague this season (10-5) which is 2nd best in the competition. Madrid are 7 point favourites in this game and they’ve had a -7 Handicap at home once this season which was against Efes which they covered in a 92-84 win.

Panathinaikos have covered just 26.7% of their Handicaps this season on the road (4-11), however after starting 0-11, Panathinaikos have actually covered each of their last 4 road Handicaps winning all 4 games which has been a drastic improvement of their road form compared to early season. Panathinaikos have not had a +7 road Handicap this season, but the closest that they’ve had to that was a +6.5 Handicap at Barcelona which they failed to cover in a 79-68 loss.

Recent H2H in Madrid

Real Madrid have dominated Panathinaikos at home recently winning 6 consecutive games against them in Madrid.

The most recent meeting happened this season as Madrid beat Panathinaikos comfortably 89-68 and in that game Real Madrid covered a -10.5 Handicap and total 164 points ended with an Under as the teams totalled 157 points.

Injury Report

Real Madrid: Sergio Llull is the only player that is out for the hosts for the Game 1.

Panathinaikos: Nikos Pappas is out while James Gist is questionable to play.
