Manchester United Team Preview

Manchester United

Manchester United are coming into this squad with a hope that they can dethrone Man City for the title. However, the lack of transfer business and Mourinho getting frustrated and taking digs at the team and the board in the media has really got many Manchester United fans concerned. Man Utd have made one solid signing in Fred, however they lost the veteran Carrick and a LB Daley Blind which has lessened their depth in a way. Although United have a great squad, the playstyle by Mourinho is really starting to become out of date as many teams have been able to expose defensive tactics. It could be very likely that Mourinho could be gone during the season as we know he tends to fall of in his 3rd season at clubs and a prime example of that is Chelsea in his last stint when they went from Champions to 17th mid season and Jose got sacked. Whether United can really challenge City for the title is highly unlikely given that City strengthened even more than United did and they already finished 20 points above them in their title winning season and not to forget United face injury problems with a key player Nemanja Matic who will miss the start of the season while City are fully healthy. Although United’s target is to win the league, it seems like they could be more likely in a top 4 battle, but maybe just maybe if Pogba can finally thrive in this team like he does for France and Lukaku scores over 20 goals like he did at Everton then Manchester United could possibly challenge if those two hit the heights that they’re capable of hitting. One weakness in United’s play is their backline, although they don’t concede many mostly thanks to de Gea and defensive tactics, Man Utd do not have a strong defence and they haven’t added anyone to it including missing out on Harry Maguire, so as usual David de Gea is going to be crucial for them as this current backline is just not good enough and not adding a single player to it is really strange by the Manchester United board. Anything can happen this season, it could go really good or really sour from the get go. They are considered title contenders which is why we’ll put them as that as their target but in our eyes a top 4 finish is as much as they can achieve and they may not even do that because Man City and Liverpool have much better squads right now, but not only that Chelsea, Arsenal are coming and Spurs are still very good.
