Fulham Team Preview

Fulham

After a 4 year absence, the West Londoners are back in the Premier League! A team that was once a Premier League regular, has really had a downfall in recent years but eventually Fulham found their way back. Mainly thanks to their coach Slavisa Jokanovic, Fulham got to finally taste some success as he brought them back up into the Premier League. Fulham got promoted by winning the playoffs after finishing 3rd in the league. They beat Aston Villa in the playoff Final after overcoming Derby in the Semi Final. Fulham didn’t really start the season well, but a great run of games in the second half of the season and the signing of Mitrovic in January (who they now signed on a pemanent deal) was really a huge reason why Fulham ended up finishing so high. Fulham not only managed to retain the services of Mitrovic, but they’ve also kept the young star Ryan Sessegnon while going berzerk in the transfer window, especially the deadline day by adding some really good players such as Jean Michael Seri, Alfie Mawson and Andre Schurrle, Sergio Rico, Luciano Vietto, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Calum Chambers and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa. Fulham’s target will primarily be to avoid relegation coming into the new season since they are the new and there is going to be a lot of work to do with all the new signings because it won’t click right away so they found themselves near the bottom early, but then expect Fulham to start picking up wins towards second half of the season because their squad is very good on paper and with the management of Slavisa Jokanovic you’d expect them to get it right during the season. Fulham are a very good attacking side, especially now that they added Schurrle and Vietto alongside keeping Mitrovic. However their defending was suspect and now they have lost both of their regular full backs in Ryan Fredericks and Matt Targett as one went to West Ham while the latter has gone back to Southampton from his loan however the additions of Nice’s Maxime Le Marchand who can play at LB to replace Targett, two youngsters from Arsenal and United in Chambers and Fosu-Mensah and a proven Premier League and an England international CB Alfie Mawson should help Fulham fill the holes at the back they had last season, who knows they may end up being a solid defensive side after adding so many players to the squad. It may take time for the new players to gel, but once they do expect Fulham to be successful in their first season back in the Premier League and although they target to avoid relegation right now, they are very capable of finishing a lot higher, even a mid table finish shouldn’t surprise us.
