Opinions?

Well, compared to the lotto or roulette, poker takes more skill. But compared to Backgammon or chess, much, much, less. In a tourney, the luck factor is very high, IMO around 70 or 80%.

The skill in poker is knowing when to risk your chips and when to fold the hand. The skilled player will fold those Kings everytime when his 5 bb raise gets called by one or two players and the flop comes A-10 -8 and the player/players hit him with a pot sized bet or better. This takes discipline. The Skilled player will play the percentages both preflop and post flop.
Theskilled player will bet 3bb on his JJ and fold the when UTG+4 comes over the top with a 3 bet or higher.

I'm working on it. A little every day but I still have too much gamble in me. But I'm working on it.

I would say definatly both. But its more about skill and reading your opponents. I would say at least half the pots i win online are because i can tell the other player i really weak. Even if i have little i can still force them out. Most hands are determined before the river, especially in higher stake online games.

I think poker has both skill (long term/tournament) and luck (short term/each hand). The successful players are the one's who manage/survive the cycles of luck/variance and find a way to win.

We have some Lucky players out there that seem to have captured Luck in a bottle and continue to use it over and over again and again.

We have so many players void of Luck that they continue to lose over and over again.

Poker is nothing but Luck some say.

LMAO

There is a Luck Factor in any sport but it does not dominate the sport it's just a part of it.
