I suggest his flat calling your two raises was just trapping you, he was probably also scared of KK/AA (so didn't raise) but as you already said yourself you should have been a bit concerned by his behaviour through all stages of betting.
other side of the coin - your were fairly pot commited and he coulda had A with a crap kicker
another side note...how was he playing throught the game - did you have any read on him at all?

It often happens to me with KK losing againt AA.
Or even with AA losing againt KK finding a trip on the board :helpme
When you're so much pot commited like you were, it's really hard to let the hand go, but you must let it go if you think you're beaten...
Maybe I would have raised more than your standard continuation bets, on flop or turn, in order to see the reaction on my opponent.
With standard CB, it's hard to determine what could be your opponent hand.

Best thing I can say is to not go to hell with JJ, for some reason people play it to forceful....its not much better then pocket 9's or 10's, just keep in mind that it dosnt have to force you to put all your chips in just cause it's a face card pocket pair.
