The last time the British Open was held at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2001 the winner of the tournament was David Duval, so it's pretty safe to say that someone different will pay off on the golf odds at Bovada when the event returns to that venue this week.

Sign up at Bovada NOW and deposit for your 20% Free Bet bonus up to $100.

Of course, you could always place a longshot wager on Duval at 500/1 odds to win this week, but it's Tiger Woods that has been set as the 8/1 favorite to claim the tournament.

Woods is a past champion at the British Open as well, first picking up the Claret Jug in 2000 at St Andrews and then winning the tournament again at St Andrews in 2005 and at Royal Liverpool in 2006. At that 2001 event at Royal Lytham & St Annes, Woods was 25th.

Woods last finished in the Top 5 at a major tournament at the Masters in 2011 (when he was fourth), and in the three British Open tournaments he's played since 2006 he managed to finish in 12th place in 2007 and in 23rd place in 2010 while missing the cut in 2009.

Following Woods on the odds to win the British Open this week are Lee Westwood and Luke Donald, who both sit at 14/1, with Rory McIlroy at 16/1 and Padraig Harrington at 18/1; Harrington won the British Open in back-to-back years in 2007 and 2008.

From there it's each of Francesco Molinari, Graeme McDowell and Justin Rose at 30/1 odds to win the British Open, while Phil Mickelson, Martin Kaymer and Sergio Garcia are all at 33/1 odds, and Louis Oosthuizen rounds out the second tier of contenders at 35/1 odds.

Oosthuizen won the British Open at St Andrews in 2010, while Darren Clarke is the defending champion at the event thanks to his victory at Royal St George's last year. Clarke is at 125/1 odds for this week along with Stewart Cink, who won at Turnberry in 2009.

It's been feast or famine at the major tournaments for Bubba Watson so far in 2012, and he'll be looking to find his Masters form once again this week as he tees it up at the British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes.

Sign up at Bovada NOW and deposit for your 20% Free Bet bonus up to $100.

Watson picked up the first major title of his career at the Masters in the spring, but he followed up that victory by missing the cut at the U.S. Open last month. And without much of a track record at the British Open he's back at 40/1 odds to win the event this week.

Watson has played the British Open three times in his career, missing the cut in both 2009 and 2010 and finishing in a tie for 30th place at the tournament at Royal St George's last season. In his career Watson has managed to finish in the Top 10 at a major tournament just three times – at the Masters this year (first), at the PGA Championship in 2010 (second), and at the U.S. Open back in 2007 (fifth).

So predicting a high Watson finish at Royal Lytham & St Annes this week would pay off nicely on the golf props at Bovada, as he's set back at 8/1 odds to end up in the Top 5 at the event. Watson is also a 40/1 underdog to lead the tournament after the first round.

You can find Watson at 16/1 odds to finish as the top American player at the British Open this week; Tiger Woods is the 11/4 favorite on that prop bet, with Phil Mickelson (9/1) and Rickie Fowler (10/1) among the other golfers ahead of Watson on that list.

As well, on the head-to-head golf props at Bovada Watson and Zach Johnson are tied at -115 odds for their matchup; Johnson was 16th at the British Open in 2011, which was his best-ever result at the tournament.

Tiger Woods is listed as the favorite on the odds to win the British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes this week, and he's also the subject of plenty of golf props for the major event.

Join Bovada NOW for an instant 20% Free Bet Bonus up to $100.

Woods sits at 8/1 on the British Open odds at Bovada, and he's also pegged at 12/1 odds to be in the lead after the first round of the tournament has been completed on Thursday.

Think Tiger will come roaring out the gates at the event? Woods is listed at +350 odds to score a birdie or better on the first hole, with par at -175 on that prop bet at Bovada. Woods carding a bogey or worse on the first hole of the British Open is listed at +333.

The last time Woods ended up in the Top 10 at the British Open was back in 2006, when he won the tournament for the second straight year (and for the third time in his career). For this week you can find Woods at EVEN odds to record a Top-10 finish at Royal Lytham & St Annes, and he's at -130 odds to end up outside the Top 10. A Top-5 result sits at 13/8.

Woods has managed to record seven Top-10 results at the British Open since 1998, although he ended up in 25th place when the event was held at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 2001. Tiger was low amateur (22nd place) on that course at the British Open in 1996.

Woods last picked up a trophy at a major tournament in 2008 at the U.S. Open, and he's at 5/2 on the golf props at Bovada to win another major event in 2012. Tiger finished in 21st place at the U.S. Open in June, and was 40th at the Masters back in the spring.

The golf betting world is focused on Tiger Woods for this week's British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes, but Luke Donald is also listed as one of the favorites on the odds list to walk away with the tournament title this week.

Join Bovada NOW for an instant 20% Free Bet Bonus up to $100.

Donald is set just back of Woods at 14/1 on the odds to win the British Open this week, with Tiger pegged at 8/1 on that list. Donald is also listed at 11/4 odds to end up in the Top 5 at the tournament, and at +135 odds to turn in a Top-10 result this week. You can also wager on Donald finishing outside the Top 10 at -175 odds.

Last year at the British Open Donald missed the cut, which was the sixth time that has happened to him at the event dating back to 1999. His best result at the tournament was a fifth-place finish in 2009 at Turnberry, while he was 11th in 2010 at St Andrews. All of Donald's other appearances at the tournament have resulted in finishes of 35th or worse.

If you're looking for Donald to buck that trend and perform well this week at Royal Lytham & St Annes you can find him at 20/1 odds to lead the tournament after the first round, and he's also listed at +700 odds to record a birdie or better on the first hole of the event.

On the head-to-head golf props at Bovada, Donald is the slight -110 underdog to record a better result than Lee Westwood (-120) this week, while he's the -120 favorite to beat Rory McIlroy (-110) at the tournament.

Finally, you can get 6/1 odds that Donald will win at least one major tournament in 2012. Donald has zero major wins in his career; he missed the cut at the U.S. Open last month and was 32nd at the Masters earlier in the season.

Rory McIlroy won the U.S. Open last season, but in the four major events played since then he hasn't managed to finish better than 25th place. McIlroy will be looking to regain some major magic this week and pay off on the golf betting props at Bovada at the British Open.

Join Bovada NOW for an instant 20% Free Bet Bonus up to $100.

McIlroy's best British Open result came at St Andrews in 2010 when he ended up in a tie for third place, but he sunk to a 25th-place finish at the event last season at Royal St George's. For this week's tournament McIlroy is set at 16/1 odds to pick up the victory.

McIlroy is also listed at 3/1 odds to end up in the Top 5 at Royal Lytham & St Annes this week, while you can get +150 odds on him finishing in the Top 10 (and -200 odds on him ending up outside of the Top 10). His other two career British Open results were 47th in 2009 at Turnberry, and 42nd in 2007 at Carnoustie (as the low amateur).

Elsewhere on the British Open props list, McIlroy is set at 22/1 odds to be the first-round leader at the tournament, and he's been given +350 odds to record a birdie or better on the first hole – with -175 odds for a par, and +333 odds for a bogey or worse.

The head-to-head props have McIlroy at -110 odds to record the better score against Luke Donald (-120) this week, while he's tied with Padraig Harrington at -115 odds on that list.

As well, you can find McIlroy at 9/2 on the golf odds at Bovada to win at least one major tournament on the PGA Tour this season. McIlroy finished in a tie for 40th place at the Masters this spring before missing the cut at the U.S. Open.

Phil Mickelson fell just short of winning his first career British Open title last year, ending up in a tie for second place at Royal St George's behind champion Darren Clarke. Lefty will get another shot at the title this week with the tournament set for Royal Lytham & St Annes.

Join Bovada NOW for an instant 20% Free Bet Bonus up to $100.

Mickelson, though, is back in the second tier of contenders at 33/1 odds to win the British Open this week, putting him behind favorites like Tiger Woods (8/1), Luke Donald (14/1), and Rory McIlroy (16/1). Mickelson is also set at 33/1 odds to be the first-round leader.

If you're looking for Mickelson to just be competitive at the tournament once again this year you can find him at 13/2 odds to end up in the Top 5, and at +350 odds to turn in a Top-10 result (with -550 odds to end up outside the Top 10 this week).

Mickelson has managed to finish in the Top 10 at the British Open just twice in his career; last year, and in 2004 when he was third at Royal Troon. In his two previous appearances at this event at Royal Lytham & St Annes he was 30th (in 2001) and 41st (in 1996).

You can also find Mickelson at 8/1 on the golf odds at Bovada to win a major tournament in 2012; he was close at the Masters back in the spring when he turned in a third-place result, but he also ended up in 65th place at the U.S. Open last month. Mickelson's last victory at a major tournament on the PGA Tour came at the Masters back in 2010.

Head-to-head bettors this week can find Mickelson as a slight -110 underdog against Sergio Garcia (-120) in their matchup, while Lefty would pay out a large chunk of change if he had a hole-in-one at some point at the event – that prop bet is set at +8000 odds.

The world's top golfers are fully focused on this week's British Open but just eight days before the start of the London Games they are relishing the chance to join the Olympic party in 2016.

Golf will return to the Olympics for the first time since 1904 in Rio de Janeiro and Open favorite Tiger Woods would love to be a part of it.

"I hope I can qualify," the American former world number one told reporters. "I'll be 40 by then. It will be something that I've never experienced.

"I would love to be able to have a chance to represent my country in the Olympic Games."

A popular golf wager not that long ago was tempting: Someone takes Tiger Woods in a major championship, someone else gets the rest of the field.

Pitting one against 155 hardly seems fair, but there was a stretch a decade ago that saw Woods win seven times in an 11-major span. Time was, predicting how any major championships would play out wasn’t all that difficult, or much of a stretch.

Times have changed. Anybody who boasts of having the ability to accurately forecast major championships is either a meteorologist or a psychic. Or simply a liar, because golf these days is as unpredictable as a roll of the dice at a Vegas craps table.

Woods might win this week’s British Open at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, which starts on Thursday. If he does, it would simply extend the streak of major championships without a repeat winner to 16, the second-longest stretch since the Masters made its debut in 1934. It would end a streak, too, since the last nine majors have been won by first-timers. Woods already has 14.

Two of the world's top golfers have backed the R & A's decision to embrace technology by allowing spectators to bring mobile phones into this week's British Open.

The R & A, golf's rulemakers outside of the United States and Mexico and organizers of the sport's oldest major, have relented on a ban on phones which had been in place since 2006.

World No. 3 Lee Westwood, searching for his first triumph in one of golf's four majors in front of his home fans, says the ban was unrealistic in the modern age.

"We live in times when the mobile phone is a key tool in business affairs so I think we might deter people from attending if there is a ban," the 39-year-old, who has over 450,000 followers on Twitter, said in quotes released to CNN ahead of the 141st British Open.

"Obviously you don't want them ringing when you are about to take a shot, but in general golf followers tend to be mindful of a player's needs."

Second-round play began Friday at the British Open with Rory McIlroy among the early starters chasing 18-hole leader Adam Scott and Tiger Woods among the last of the leaders out at Royal Lytham.

Scott, a 32-year-old Australian seeking his first major title, matched the course record with a six-under par 64 on Thursday to seize the lead after the opening round over the bunker-laden links layout in northwest England.

"I'm very pleased with the start," Scott said. "It was important to take advantage of calm conditions."

More of the same weather is expected for round two, which started with seven past major champions among the dozen players directly behind Scott.

Scotland's Paul Lawrie, the 1999 British Open champion hoping to win again and create the longest-ever gap between Open titles, and 2007 Masters champion Zach Johnson of the United States were one stroke off the pace.

Actor Jack Wagner and former pitcher Mark Mulder shared the lead Friday after the first round of the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Lake Tahoe. NFL kicker Ryan Longwell was in third, and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and hockey Hall-of-Famer Brett Hull were tied for fourth at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

Romo, who narrowly lost to Wagner last year, birdied the final hole to climb within striking distance.

"There are certain putts that you need to make to keep yourself in position," Romo said. "Even when you're not putting well, I had to have that one. It was important. I hit the ball fine, it was just some chips and some putts. If I clean that up, I'll have about 10 extra points."

Adam Scott will take a four-stroke lead into the final round of the British Open.

He's never had a better chance to end that long wait for a major championship mostly because of that long putter.

Scott stayed in the game early with two key par saves, pulled away with three birdies around the turn and finished with a 2-under 68 at Royal Lytham & St. Annes overnight (NZT).

"It was all pretty solid stuff, considering the circumstances and how much trouble there is on this golf course," Scott said.

Ernie Els must have believed Lytham owed him an Open Championship, but not even the big South African would have dreamt that the old links would have delivered it to him so dramatically; with one of the biggest chokes in golf's history. Poor, poor Adam Scott The Australian has joined Jean Van de Velde and, dare we whisper it, Scott's hero Greg Norman as the kings of golfing calamity. As natural as it was to feel deep joy for Els, the veteran who many had give up on after 10 barren years, it was easier to feel intense sympathy for Scott.

Ernie Els did himself and his country proud on Sunday, not only because he won his second Open and his fourth major, but also because of the humble and gracious way he accepted the coveted Claret Jug.

The big South African, who has also won the US Open twice, was cheered all the way around Lancashire's always hospitable Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club all week - and never more so than when he ended his charge on the closing stretch with a rock-solid birdie at the 18th.

Stephen Ross no longer runs the Royal Canadian Golf Association — or Golf Canada as it now prefers to be called — but he clearly still wields some influence.

Golf Canada made a good decision earlier this week when it granted Abbotsford’s Nick Taylor, who has played well this summer on the Canadian Tour, an exemption into this week’s RBC Canadian Open at Hamilton Golf & Country Club.

But hours later, it made a highly questionable one when it handed an exemption to Christopher Ross. That would be the son of Stephen Ross, former longtime executive director of the RCGA.

Christopher Ross is a promising player. He competed for Eastern Michigan University and had a solid amateur career in Ontario. But since turning pro a couple of years ago, Ross has toiled on the U.S. mini-tours.

The Official World Golf Rankings lists 34 Canadian players. Ross is not one of them.

British Open champion Ernie Els is committed to playing the RBC Canadian Open at the Hamilton Golf & Country Club this week, but he's behind favorites Matt Kuchar and Hunter Mahan on the odds to win that tournament at Bovada.

Sign up at Bovada NOW and deposit for your 20% Free Bet bonus up to $100.

Kuchar is pegged as the 11/1 favorite to pick up the win in Ancaster, Ontario this week, with Mahan just behind him on the list at 14/1 odds. Kuchar ended up in a tie for ninth place at last week's British Open, with Mahan one stroke behind him but in 19th place.

Jim Furyk is next at 16/1 on that golf odds list, and he won the Canadian Open in back-to-back years in 2006 (at Hamilton Golf & Country Club) and 2007 (at Angus Glen). Furyk turned in a 34th-place result at the British Open last week.

Els is then tied with Brandt Snedeker at 22/1 on the odds to win the Canadian Open, after Els came from behind to beat Adam Scott by one stroke at Royal Lytham & St Annes. Snedeker ended up in third place at the British Open, four strokes back of Els.

Charl Schwartzel sits at 25/1 odds for this week, with Ryan Palmer at 28/1 and each of Jeff Overton, Bo Van Pelt and Sean O'Hair at 33/1. O'Hair claimed the victory at the Canadian Open last year at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club in Vancouver, beating Kris Blanks in a playoff.

Bud Cauley, Kyle Stanley, Robert Garrigus and Seung-yul Noh are each at 40/1 odds for this week, with Kevin Na, Retief Goosen, Rory Sabbatini and Vijay Singh among a group of golfers listed at 50/1 odds. Singh won the Canadian Open at Glen Abbey in 2004, and finished in a ninth-place tie at the British Open last week.

After turning in a solid showing at Royal Lytham & St Annes last week Mark Calcavecchia will try to pay off on the golf odds this week with a victory at the Senior British Open at the Ailsa Course at Turnberry.

Sign up at Bovada NOW and deposit for your 20% Free Bet bonus up to $100.

Calcavecchia ended up in a tie for ninth place at the British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes last week, finishing seven strokes back of winner Ernie Els. On the Champions Tour golf odds for this week Calcavecchia is listed third at 12/1 odds to claim the trophy.

That has him behind the 8/1 Tom Lehman and the 10/1 Fred Couples, with Bernard Langer also at 12/1 on the odds to win the Senior British Open at Bovada. Lehman was the only one of that trio to compete in the British Open last week; he ended up missing the cut.

Langer won the Senior British Open at Carnoustie back in 2010 and he finished in a tie for 12th place at the tournament at Walton Heath last year, ending up eight strokes behind winner Russ Cochran. Calcavecchia was second at the 2011 Senior British Open, while Lehman was 21st, and Couples wasn't part of the field.

Corey Pavin and Fred Funk are both pegged at 16/1 odds for this week's Champions Tour stop in Scotland, with Pavin tied for third at this tournament last year and Funk seventh.

Pavin finished tied with Tom Watson at the 2011 Senior British Open, and he's listed at 18/1 odds for this week as he looks for his fourth career victory at the event – he came out on top at Turnberry in 2003, and then at Royal Aberdeen in 2005 and Muirfield in 2007. Watson ended up in a tie for 77th place at Royal Lytham & St Annes last week.

Turnberry last hosted the Senior British Open in 2006, when Loren Roberts picked up his first of two victories at the event – he also won in 2009 at Sunningdale. Roberts is back at 40/1 on the golf odds at Bovada for this week.

ASHBURNHAM head PGA pro Martin Stimson will take time out from his busy role at the Carmarthenshire club to make an eagerly awaited return to action at the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship.

The Welsh pro hasn’t contested a final for six years so is relishing the chance to take on leading PGA pros from across the UK in the £78,000 tournament, held in association with Peugeot, which is being played at the De Vere Carden Park in Cheshire from August 7-10.

It’s the 40th staging of the championship, and the 20th year of sponsorship by Glenmuir, and Stimson is determined to enjoy his appearance.

“I last played a final at Prince’s in 2006 so it’s a great opportunity,” he said.
