Poker is not about the best players in the world competing to see who the true champion is. After all, there's no money to be made for good players if they are only competing against other good players. Instead, poker mimics the animal kingdom. The predators (good players) seek out their prey (weaker players). If the weaker players don't flee their table in time, their chips will eventually be eaten by the stronger players. 😁

Don't walk into a Poker game expecting to win until you've practiced the game on your own and understand it thoroughly. Experienced players at these tables look forward to relieving "live fish" of their money, and you could end up learning expensive lessons.

Don't play too many hands

If you learn one thing about poker, make sure it's this: You don't need to play every hand you're dealt. There are 169 starting hands in Texas Hold'em, and at least half of them aren't worth playing. Those that are worth playing generally consist of pairs, suits and high cards. Watch the pros play and you'll see that they often fold when they get a hand they don't like. There's no rush – winning takes time, so play the good hands and shake off the bad ones.

90% of the poker players online are losers and they frantically search around for the magic formula that the other 10% seem to be using. They search on websites just like this, buy all the popular books, watch poker on TV, all in a quest for that winning game everyone seems to be promising. Well, the fact is most of the poker resources promising a winning game are delivering it to you. The big problem that the 90% loser faction has is that they don't listen. Period! Lots of player take a big hit and decide they are going to look for better advice. But if you've read enoughbooks and website tips you'll realize they're all basically the same.

Usually the BOTTOM LINE always come down to the advice of playing a tight aggressive game. And if you'll ask the winners they'll tell you that this is correct. All Texas Hold'em advice, including that on this website, is pretty much the same message spelled out in different ways. However, lots of players just don't get the message when it comes time to sit down and play for the cash.

Poker is really a game where your moves are secondary to figuring out what your opponents are doing and why. With this information it will be clear what your best play should be, and your best play will be required most of the time if you want to be a winner. Winners ARE ALWAYS the player who make the fewest mistakes. Learn as much as you can about the game and THINK when you are playing The more experience you gain through thinking things out (player moves, card odds, tells, who mighht have what, etc) the better your understanding of the game. The person who out plays everyone else at the table is the one who best understands the game.

Approximately 80 million Americans play poker and 50% of them play non-internet poker recreationally.

The first online poker room ever was Planet Poker (1998) and the second was Paradise Poker (1999).

In January 2004, online poker revenues stood at around $40 million per month, and were growing by 27% per month.

At peak times over a million people are playing for real or play money at the various card-rooms around the world.

Party Gaming is worth about $8.3 billion, according to calculations based on the company's 2004 net income of $350.1 million.

Party poker is today the number one online poker room with more than 2 million members and over 100.000 players playing at peak times.

Kathy Liebert won the first Party Poker million tournament and won $1,000,000.

Phil Hellmuth (24), the youngest player ever to win the WSOP main event, had his head shaved after wrongly predicting the outcome of a WSOP event.

Chris Moneymaker (won the 2003 WSOP main event championship) sold 20% of his entry to his father and 20% to his friend to finance his trip to Vegas for the 2003 WSOP.

Johnny Moss is the only person declared WSOP Champion without actually winning the event.

You win most of your poker money from putting your opponents in a position to make big mistakes and not from your own brilliant play.

There are 2,598,960 possible poker hands with 52 cards.

The four suits, hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs originated in France in 1480. Spades represent nobility, Diamonds represent merchants, Clubs represent peasants and Hearts the clergy.

High-quality plastic cards last much longer than the paper ones and the casinos normally change decks after 15 minutes of steady play.

Each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from history:

Spades - King David.

Hearts - Charlemagne .

Clubs -Alexander, the Great.

Diamonds - Julius Caesar.

There are two "one-eyed" Jacks in a deck of cards. Jack of spades and Jack of hearts.

70 million decks of cards are sold in America each year.

Online poker has become incredibly popular over the past several years and it looks as if it will continue to do so. However, despite its worldwide popularity there are a lot of questions people have about online poker and would like to know the answers before they start betting their hard earned money online. Fortunately, there are answers to these questions. Just continue to read and you should find the answer to some of the most frequently asked questions regarding online poker and gambling on the Internet.

FAQ #1 What is Online Poker? First and foremost, individuals are unsure what online poker actually is. Basically, online poker is just like playing poker with your friends or at a casino and the cards are dealt automatically by the computer. This means no dealer mistakes! You must download software from a gambling site to play online poker and most of them have the appearance of a virtual room of gamblers playing poker. Each person’s screen name is denoted on their seat or at the table. So, it is as if you are playing with a group of friends, but on your computer screen. You can also place bets and pay in or receive payments through a variety of payment options available.

FAQ#2 Is online poker safe? People distrust the Internet and don’t like giving a website their banking information or other personal information due to the high increase in identity theft and other similar crimes. However, the majority of online poker sites are incredibly safe and use the same type of security software that online banks use. As a result, if you feel comfortable banking online, managing your stocks, or shopping on your favorite website, then playing poker online won’t prove any riskier and your information won’t be at risk.

FAQ #3 How do you know if a site is legitimate? There are many online poker sites out there and while many of them are legitimate and will pay out as they claim, there are always a few cheaters in the mix that simply want to take your money. So, like anything, take caution and pay attention to the site you are considering gambling with. Look for security measures, seals from Internet organizations, or Visa verified, things of that nature. Also, check out the years of operation, amount of players, and read the internet for a variety of reviews about the website. Any website that has been around for a while, is a member of Internet organizations, and provides strong security measures is safe to play. Others that do not should be avoided.

FAQ #4 Is online gambling legal? Online gambling is neither legal or illegal, so to speak. This also depends on where you live, but in general gambling online has no precedent in the United States that says it is illegal. However, there are no gambling websites registered in the United States either. So, gambling online is up to you and you should realize that technology is way ahead of legislation, but if you hear about any laws being worked out regarding the illegality of poker online you might consider clearing out your account instead of getting caught up in a bad situation. However, at the moment, millions of Americans play online every day and there are no laws as such at the moment that prove online gambling is illegal.

FAQ #5 How do I receive my winnings? A favorite question regarding online poker is how an individual collects their winnings. Typically, when signing up each player must choose payment options. This means ways to pay money in and a way to receive winnings. Many times it is through a bank account or an intermediary. Options like PayPal, American Express and the like do not work with online poker sites in case the sites turn out to be illegal and they are fined with aiding and abetting fines. Each website pays out at a different rate, so make sure you read about that before signing up with a particular gambling site.

FAQ #6 What if something goes wrong? Since you are playing online in real time you can expect that at some point something will go wrong. This might be with your computer, the server, the website, or any number of things. The best thing to do is immediately contact customer service and they will help you solve whatever problem to the best of their ability.

FAQ #7 Is it easy to cheat? Cheating at anything is possible if you are determined to do it, even online poker. However, for those individuals who choose to collude they are risking being found out. The reason for this is online gambling websites have high tech tracking software that keeps up with each player and every game they have ever played, as well as all the other players in the room. So, if you believe a player is guilty of collusion and you report them then an investigation will take place to figure it out.

First round
The game starts off with all the players posting the ”ante” (putting a predetermined amount in the pot before the cards are dealt). After the antes have been placed each player is dealt three cards (two cards face down and one face up card. The face up card is also known as the ”door card” or ”Third Street”. The player wuth the lowest face up card must initiate the action with a ”Bring-In” bet.

Second round
After the first round of betting another card is dealt face up to each player that is still in the hand. This is ”Fourth Street” (the second round of betting). From ”Fourth Street” on, the highest hand showing begins the action by checking or betting.

Third round
Upon completion of the betting on "fourth street", another card is dealt face-up to those who remain in the pot. This is called "Fifth Street" (the third round of betting - which doubles (the value of each bet is double of what was available in the first two rounds) - and continues at this amount for the remaining betting rounds). The highest hand showing again starts the action by checking or betting.

Fourth round
Upon the completion of betting on "fifth street", another card is dealt face-up. This is "Sixth Street" (fourth betting round).

Fifth round
The final card is dealt down. The last card is also known as the "River Card" or "Seventh Street". After the last round of betting the player who show the best 5-cardhand after combining five of seven cards wins the pot.
